When you move into a new home, there will be features of it that you dislike. The wallpaper in the living room might be a hideous color or the linoleum floor in the bathroom needs to retire. Many people, however, have issues with the kitchen. This room can become out-dated extremely quickly. Refrigerators, stovetops, kitchen islands and the overall look of the room changes significantly over as little as five years so if the previous owners did nothing to revamp their kitchen, you will certainly need to make this room your first project. In order to bring the kitchen into the twenty-first century you do not need to tear everything up. You can have a brand new room without overspending your budget and still have a functional kitchen while you are remodeling!
Kitchen cabinets are one of the biggest complaints of new homeowners. Cabinet doors see lots of abuse over the years. Pots bang into them, greasy fingers handle them, and their varnish starts to wear off. Before you know it, the cabinets look terrible and you have no idea how it happened. Now that you know the problem, however, it is time to fix it. You have two options: replacing or refinishing.
Replacing your cabinets is often a person's first choice, but it is not necessarily the better one. When you replace the cabinets altogether, you have much more control over how things look. You can design cupboards that are more spacious or change the material of the cabinets completely to create a different ambience. You do, however, have to pay a huge price for brand new cabinets. If the high cost is not something in which you are interested, try refinishing your kitchen cabinets!
Cabinets made over thirty years ago are actually in better shape than brand new cabinets built today due to the sturdier materials used at the time. Refinishing the cabinets, therefore, might be a better investment in the end and you save a significant amount of money! The three most popular options for refinishing kitchen cabinets are plastic laminates, rigid thermofoils, and wood veneers. Each one has a distinctive look so you can choose the one that is best for you. Refinishing the cabinets achieves the same effect as replacing the cabinets; your kitchen furniture looks brand new at the fraction of the cost!
