RTA cabinets – Why they are a better buy!
Pricing cabinets at your local home supply store is a difficult part of any home remodeling project. Their “sales” are insulting and their prices are very high. Unfortunanlty, because of mass marketing and repetitive ads, people think they are getting a good deal. One look at their cabinet section and it forced me to go online and see what else was out there. Luckily I found some good buys and a better way to save money.
First we have to ask ourselves, what is an RTA cabinet? RTA – Ready To Assemble cabinets are the smart way to put together your dream kitchen. Lets face it, kitchen cabinets are one of the most expensve components of the kitchen. So if someone came to you and said “ we can offer you all your kitchen appliances for half price, all you have to do is assemble them” you would say – no way. Because how would you know how to assemble a stove or microwave? But, if someone said “ here are your kitchen cabinets, they are half price, all you have to do is assemble them with one page of instructions and a screwdriver”. This could be worth taking a look at.
Next, you would want to know how are you going to get these cabinets. We want to avoid the big box retailers, they are over-priced and full of methods to make you think your getting a good buy. A local home builder‘s store who is working hard to get your business or a friendly neighborhood hardware store could be stocking these cabinets. If you can’t find the locals online, give them a call. Or since your online, you could just do a search and buy online.
Why do we want to buy online? Easy. Less expensive and home delivery. It can done from your home or apartment. Why fight through crowds and traffic. Second, why pay for gas? Is gas going to go down... no. So why spend more money than you need to. Even if you order them from the big box stores, you have to either get the cabinets delivered from the store, by them or by renting a truck.
So now that we have decided to buy the cabinets online, what can we expect? Be careful of the websites that are offering “free shipping”. This is a bait and switch technique that will sell you cabinets at a higher price and make up for it with the free shipping. Some sites have low prices and moderate shipping. Stay with these sites because ultimately your going to pay for shipping, but, you can manage your costs by going with a site that is upfront about their costs. Besides, your not going to pay the huge mark-up that you would at a Home Depot. Even after adding the shipping charges to the total price, the convience and savings are a much better way to keep your project easy and in-expensive.
I have used both types of cabinets, but after finding RTA cabinet distributors online, I have not returned to the standard cabinet.
The last concern is how easy are they to assemble? They are actually easy to assemble. A screw driver and the directions and you really are set to put together a quality cabinet.
So in the end it’s a better buy with a little bit more of a time commitment. I have successfully been able to save thousands on the kitchens I have installed, and so can you. If you are interested in finding out my secrets, check out my author bio.
