So you have just bough your very first gas cooker? Congratulations! The question now is, do you know how to use your gas cooker properly?
A great number of people have lost their lives due to an accident known as stove fire. It is because of accidents like these that safety devices such as the flame failure device came into being. However, prevention is always better than cure and knowing how to properly handle your gas cooker can save you from terrible costs later on.
Here are some things that you might want to keep in mind in order to prevent stove fires:
1. First and foremost, make sure that your gas pipeline is working and that there are no leaks. Gas usually emits a certain smell so if you find yourself constantly sniffing at some unknown aroma, you might want to have your gas company check out your connection.
2. Do not put clothes or rags near your gas cooker. These can easily catch fire and could be spread it around in a matter of minutes.
3. If your stoves, gas cookers and the likes already have parts that are rusty or broken, do not scrimp on your budget. Replace them immediately with brand new parts. Make sure that you know what the part numbers are so that you can easily check if there is an available replacement at your local appliance store.
4. When cooking over your stoves, gas cookers and the likes, make sure that you do not turn up the knobs too high. Over boiling pots as well as frying pans left on their own can easily catch fire. Should this happen, do not use water in dousing the fire. Chances are, your cooker would be covered with grease from years of cooking. Dousing fire with water would, therefore, cause it to spread even further.
5. If your stoves gas cookers and the likes do not have a flame failure device, now is the right time to get one. These devices can help you turn off your gas supply in cases when you are through cooking and you have forgotten to turn off the gas or when wind has blow the flames down.
