Go Outside The Lines With Patio Landscaping

You can let your imagination run wild with patio landscaping as patios can be designed to do almost anything and have many different effects. Patios are mainly used to enhance your home and help to bring a bit of the outdoors inside. There are many design information available both from books, online and at large hardware and design stores. You can soon turn your backyard into an area that all can enjoy.

The first step is to decide the area you want to transform into a patio; do you want to use up most of your backyard or simply add a space to better enjoy your back garden. Once you know the area you are working with you can then begin the design. Your design will only be bound by your budget so you can be as creative as you want.

Partitions can play a roll in your patio design with separate sections for children, adults, cooking and relaxing. You can design your patio to double as a greenhouse or garden showplace or if you don't have a lot of room you can double it as a breakfast nook or cafe-like area, in which you can enjoy meals.

Patio kits are available from magazines and hardware stores and they are fairly easy to use. As long as you have a helper and can competently use a saw and hammer you shouldn't have a problem. The materials used for your patio should be weather resistant and hardy, as you want your patio to last for years before having to do any serious maintenance. You should also determine if you want your patio to blend into the surroundings using natural material or if parts of it should stand out.

Patios that are made from recycled material such as planks and boards are very eco-friendly and can be found in a wide variety of styles and colors. They will last forever. You can also design your patio to include stones and brick paving for a more Old World feel.

Is Decor Important?

The accessories that you use in your patio are just as important as the design and patio itself. Look beyond the plastic table and chairs and find furniture that is comfortable, utilizing cushions and padded chairs. Comfortable furniture will ensure that you use your patio as much as possible. You can keep your furniture clean by storing the pads and cushions in a container or covered by a tarp.

Storage containers are a great way to protect your accessories from the weather and sun and they can be concealed with strategically placed plants and furniture.

Plants are important to create a great patio. Perennials and annuals can be used to showcase the patio landscape. Ponds and waterfalls can also be installed, there are kits available, to create a soothing environment.

If you have a pond or waterfall then you should definitely include plants in your patio landscape design. Planters made of rubber can be used and sun-catchers and mirrors can help create the illusion of more space, particularly if you have a small yard.
