How to Build a Cheap Garden Shed

Are you interested in adding a garden shed to your landscape, but are looking to save as much money as possible? If so, there are several ways that you can substantially reduce your costs of adding a shed to your property.

First, you should seriously consider building the shed yourself. By doing so, you can stand to save hundreds (and in some cases, thousands) of dollars over the cost of purchasing an already constructed shed and having it delivered to your home.

But what if you have little building experience and find the idea of building a shed yourself a bit overwhelming? In this case you can still save on your costs by purchasing a shed kit. With many kits, nearly all the cutting and measuring is already done for you, and you basically just have to assemble the shed pieces. This can be done fairly easily by a couple of people often in a matter of hours.

Another option is to find easy to use shed building plans. This is the best way to save on money and not be overwhelmed by your building project. Find shed plans created specifically with beginning builders in mind. They should be detailed, well illustrated, and have a comprehensive material list.

Another way to save considerable money on your shed is to use recycled materials in the shed construction. This could be recycled lumber (possible from an older shed on a neighbor's property or from a home that has recently been refurbished), as well as doors and windows.

Finally, if you will be using new lumber for all or parts of your shed building project, try to use cheaper local lumber whenever possible. Check with your local lumber yard to see if they have any discounted lumber for sale.

With some creative thinking and a few phone calls, you can save hundreds of dollars and still have a beautiful, durable new shed for your home or property.
