Prefabbed or Build From Scratch Above Ground Pool Decks – Pros and Cons

Of course, after you have your above ground pool installed in your backyard, you are then faced with the decision regarding what type of deck to attach to it, if any. If your pool is installed on an existing cement patio you may want to forgo having a deck installed and just use a simple ladder arrangement to get in and out. However more often than not this isn't the case.

Size Does Matter

However; if your pool is sitting on bare ground, you simply have no choice, because at the very minimum you will need some type of decking to keep dirt and debris from being tacked into your pool. You can go with a simple yet functional small entranceway deck, with a stairway leading up to it or go with a complete or partial wrap around deck but either way you have to decide between prefabbed or build from scratch.

Choices and Options

So whats the benefits of either style of above ground pool deck? They both have their upsides and downsides, so you are going to have to decide for yourself. A standard build from scratch deck for your pool, while far more expensive allows you more choices in the decking material and design styles. If you want to build in benches or anything else for that matter you can, but it will cost you.

The Least Expensive Route

On the other hand, a prefabricated above ground pool deck is by far the cheapest route to take. It will use engineered galvanized metal tubing for the support structure, which cuts materials cost considerably. Also, while this type of prefabbed deck offers little room to get creative, they are sensible smart looking when finished, with clean even lines and solid wooden decking.
