Choose an online site with English lessons and study at your own pace in the privacy of your home. You don`t have to rearrange your work schedule to attend classes because with access to the Internet, you set your own study schedule. Although you can avail of courses for which you have to pay a fee, you still get the same comprehensive lessons with a free online course. You also receive instruction through listening passages read by native English speakers which gives you the knowledge you need about how to pronounce words and phrases.

If you plan to travel to the US, you do need a course in American English. This course is different from one offering UK English because of the difference in the pronunciation of words and in the different vocabulary used in these countries.  You may need to learn English for business purposes, which means you will need to have a good grasp of the rules of grammar for your writing. Consider the meaning of these two sentences in which the same words are used. The word stressed in each sentence is underlined.

lease pass me the pepper.?

In the first sentence, the speaker is saying that he/she wants only the pepper and not some other spice. In the second sentence, one can get the idea that the speaker has asked for the pepper several times and did not receive any answer.

When you are learning English, take time out from your studies to play some games. Not only do games help to relieve your stress and instead of shutting down the site when you start to become frustrated, you will still be learning and having fun at the same time. With the wealth of games available for English language learners, you will greatly add to your vocabulary and spelling ability each time you play.

Studying English at home does require motivation. Think about your reasons for learning the language and let this be your guide while studying.
