An estimated 438,000 American die each year due to cigarette smoke related diseases. Even those who are affected indirectly through second hand smoke can fall victim to this grim statistic.
Also, according to the American Lung Association, approximately $167 billion is spent each year in smoker related health-care costs, an average of $3,702 per adult smoker.
Little wonder that people sought to bust the cigarette habit for good, with many smokers opting to use aids in their attempt to lay off cigarettes.
One of those aids was Chantix, an oral pill that eased cravings for nicotine by releasing certain chemicals in the brain to substitute the feeling of nicotine high.
Sadly, Chantix side effects have surfaced, causing harm to the very people who wanted to change their health for the better.
The public learned about Chantix danger on November 2007, when the FDA announced that the smoking aid might increase risks of depression, suicidal thoughts, and erratic behaviors. These Chantix side effects could be linked to at least 55 suicides among patients.
A prescription drug, manufacturers claim that the dangers of Chantix were not known to them until after the drug's release, however, there are some indications to the contrary.
The very real danger of suicidal ideation was evidently so grievous, that the makers have now included this potential risk on its list of warnings.
Other side effects can involve vomiting, nausea, stomach cramping, severe gas and constipation, drowsiness and sleep disruption.
With so much linked to the drug usage and millions of people taking the drug, there is bound to be hundreds of verifiable cases where people have been harmed by the drug.
If you fit the bill and have been evaluated by a professional, it may be time to look into filing a Chantix lawsuit. Should you want to know your rights in this regard, seek out the services of a reputable lawyer.
An experienced lawyer will fall under the category of a personal injury or product liability attorney. They can help you assess your case's strengths and weaknesses.
A good lawyer will make sure you get fair compensation for your injury; in fact, people who retain the services of a good lawyer are more likely to recoup large settlements than those who go it alone.
Let a Chantix lawyer work on your behalf after filing your Chantix lawsuit.
You will need to get a lawsuit started as soon as possible. Hiring a knowledgeable lawyer will allow you to go on with your life, because having them on your side will make your life a whole lot easier.
