RSI, or repetitive strain injury is a condition that affects the muscles, tendons and nerves of the Hands, Arms, Shoulders and Neck. Many people are unaware that they maybe entitled to compensation for the condition.
RSI is most commonly linked with production line work and those jobs which involve repeated rapid movements and / or for long periods of time. It has also been linked to those who use keyboards and a mouse on a personal computer. Any type of work where repeated movement is a regular feature can cause RSI to develop.
Symptoms of Repetitive Strain Injury can occur as a result of continuous muscle contraction, which is caused by being in a fixed position for too long, where the limbs are unsupported or supported in an incorrect manner.
The condition of RSI can affect the muscles, tendons and nerves of the;
Hands
Arms
Shoulders
Neck
The reported RSI symptoms include;
Pain
Swelling
Tenderness
Pins and needles
Numbness
Muscle weakness
Loss of movement
Establishing causation is the main priority in such cases and has proven very difficult in the past. For an RSI claim to succeed, there must be a clear diagnosis and a causative link between the medical condition and the person's work environment.
If you wish to make a claim in such circumstances, it may be prudent to make a note of the exact RSI condition. Keep a record of when the symptoms first occurred, enquire as to whether anybody else in the workplace has suffered from the same or similar condition.
There are a number of state benefits available to both the victims and their carers. A specialist Solicitor can not only pursue compensation claims for sufferers on a true No Win, No Fee basis, but also provide advice and assistance with applications in order to maximise benefit entitlement.
