Texas Court Records Show Houston as a Leader in Violent Crimes

If you live in Houston, checking Texas court records may be a number one priority before you move into a new neighborhood, start dating again, or allow your children to be alone with someone you don't know all that well.

For a state that ranks number one in the death penalty and higher than the next five states combined, it's surprising that such a high amount of violent crime exists here.  Texas is ranked the third highest of the U.S. following California and Florida, although the rate does not account for per capita (Texas' population is almost 23 million residents).  Keep in mind that all three of these states are some of the most densely populated states in America.

Of all the major cities in Texas, Houston is notorious for exceptionally high rates of crime.  Their past is riddled with a large number of reported murders rating them as third highest in a city with over 1million residents.  To make matters worse, Houston has fewer police per capita and square mile than other cities.  There was some speculation in 2005 that homicide rates were not being reported accurately.

Bearing all this in mind, Houston isn't a lost cause.  The good news is that in the recent FBI report, "2008 Crime in the United States," Houston experienced a 14.6% decrease in murder compared to the national decrease of 4.4%.  Houston reports a 7.6% decrease in robberies last year as well.

Just be cautious when you move into a new neighborhood.  A complete background check of the neighborhood and a look into Texas court records through a national database of records review should be the deciding factor in the next move you make.
