What Can Be Learned From Conducting a Personal Background Check?

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding personal background checks. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about personal background checks.

Have you ever suspected that your spouse is cheating on you? Has a new friend's erratic behavior ever made you question what sort of a past the person lived? Have you ever feared for your safety in regard to someone else and wanted to learn everything you could about him or her? Have you ever wanted to help in the search for a missing person? Well you can do all of these things by way of a personal background check.

A personal background check can yield many different types of information such as a person's age, marital status, current and past addresses, driving record as well as any criminal prosecutions and/or convictions. You can go further by learning about the person's financial affairs and what if any money problems they have had in the past including bankruptcies, judgments, tax liens and notices of defaults. Also to be discovered in a personal background check is whether or not a person is using social security numbers that belong to other people or ones that are completely false and whether or not the person has at any time chosen to use an alias (or Aka's, also known as). If the person has ever been involved in a lawsuit, either as the defendant or the plaintiff, this will be borne out in a personal background check as well as the details and outcome of each case.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and personal background check experts is time. If you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to personal background check.

Still one can take a personal background check a step further and learn information that is even more deeply "personal." This kind of information would include personal contact with work colleagues, neighbors and sometimes acquaintances and friends in a non intrusive sort of way to learn more about the person in question's personal lifestyle and habits, history of dating (for example does this person believe in monogamy or do they jump from person to person?), alcohol and drug use (or lack thereof), social status and position within the community (For example does this person attend a specific church? Do they get involved in community events? Do they volunteer their time to good causes?) and so on. Those doing the searches are often trained well enough (as in the case of a private investigator or private detective) as to not tip off the people they approach about the true reason for their questions.

Personal background checks are becoming more and more common. Lots of people who are considering beginning a new relationship or reviving an old one, as well as other personal reasons choose to do a personal background check on another person. The people who do so most often include people who are engaged (both males and females, spouses, boyfriends and girlfriends, and relatives who fear problems arising in the family due to the introduction of a new person (such as in the case of stepfamily members or long lost relatives).

In the case of a person wishing to do a personal background check on a person before embarking on a romantic relationship, these are often best undertaken by professional investigators who are skilled at researching personal backgrounds. Sometimes these kinds of checks are referred to as pre-relationship, pre-date, pre-marital or pre-commitment checks. Sometimes a personal background check involves domestic surveillance (also called "tailing someone") which basically means the investigator follows the person around without their knowledge and records on videotape where the person goes, who they talk to, etc. Some people believe this is very invasive behavior while others believe it is illegal to tail someone. While an argument may be made for it being invasive, it is most definitely legal as no laws are broken in the process.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.
