“A leader is a dealer in hope”—Napoleon
The word leadership encompasses a much broader meaning than simply implying that an individual has an authority amongst a certain group of people to take decisions and delegate responsibility. Leadership is the ability of an individual to motivate and provide a sense of direction or purpose to groups of people. Leadership does not require an authority or position to take people along, infact it is the charismatic characteristic of the leader that lets him to emerge from amongst the people and achieve the goals. Leaders are not people who emphasize on their superiority and the fact that others are accountable to them, but actually serve the purpose of providing role models for others. Effective leadership requires being empathetic, possessing strong networking skills, communication skills and people management abilities. Leaders create possibilities out of impossibilities, extract hope out of despair and bring light out of darkness. Leadership is not about success alone; it is about living and dying for your convictions. It is about creating the synergy through inspiration, motivation, personal example and sacrifice to achieve what seems impossible. Leadership is not a form of exercising influence, but empowering and motivating others on the road to achievement.
The history of mankind is replete with leaderships of most divergent styles such as authoritative, participative, collaborative etc. But the phenomenon of leadership is so complex and the personalities of world leaders are so divergent that no consensus model has emerged. Infact, it is the personality of the leader that attracts people to look up to him and follow him.
There are the genuine divine leaders like prophets and the pseudo divine leaders like Pharaohs and Rasputin. Then we have charismatic leaders like Kennedy, Gandhi, Bhutto, Jinnah and Nelson Mandela. Military leaders like Salah-uddin-Ayyubi, Napoleon, Churchill, Rommel and General McArthur. They are well known to us because of the effective leadership qualities they possess.

Microsoft Office 2010 Moves to the Cloud
By: Sparxoo | 20/11/2009When Canadian company i4i sued Microsoft this past August, watchdogs in the software community predicted that the move would encourage Microsoft to bring up their plans for a move to cloud computing much earlier than planned – and it looks like they were right. In addition to the announcements of a new and improved version of Internet Explorer and a major update of the Silverlight runtime platform at this week’s Microsoft at the…
What I Admire In A Good CEO
By: Spicer Matthews | 18/11/2009I have to admit, I am a CEO stalker. Not in the creepy sit outside their house kinda of way. However, I must admin I did drive by Warren Buffet’s office and house a few time. When I say I am a stalker I am more of an admirer. I am someone that loves getting inside the mind of a great CEO (or CEO type person). I read as much as I can about them, I watch all the interviews, I track the performance of their companies and more. Some CEO’s are very hard to follow and some are very easy to follow.
Focused and Effective Coaching
By: Be! Coaching | 18/11/2009I read a couple of books lately that have really inspired me. One is The Jackrabbit Factor by Leslie Householder. This is a great story about a guy who is depressed about his life as he is dealing with the very common, difficult situations we all experience at some point. He finds himself in a strange sort of dreamland where people are scrambling around in what appears to be the “rat race” of life.
