Ballad in the Night

It was a starry, solemn evening

and the moon was so enchanting.

There a fair maiden was sitting -

can't keep herself from wondering...

"Could he been looking at that star?"

she sighed and looked with dreamy eyes.

"Oh my! It was a shooting star!"

the star that also caught his eyes.

"Could he been thinking of me too?"

she smiled with her eyes filled with glow.

"Then let me whisper this to you -"

she kissed the wind and off it blew...

"Could he been dreaming of me too -"

then she mused a minute or two.

"with dreams that'll bridge the distance between us ?"

she beamed and let silence swallow her doubts...

Across the miles, away from his beloved,

at a river bank sat a lovestruck lad.

He fixed his eyes at the masterpiece above

like a spellbound lover trapped in the world of love.

"Such a beauty so precious and rare!"

he exclaimed, then trickled down a tear so clear.

"How I wish for your presence here beside me,

to fill this emptiness within me."

Then he looked down on the cool, clear water

amazed to see his beloved's image there.

"My love for you will last forever!"

It was a vow he made with a silent prayer.

Once again he looked up above

and thought of his beloved as fair as a dove.

The stars blinked at him, followed the cold, evening breeze.

Reminding him it's time to go home and rest.

Great may be the distance between the two of them.

Too many obstacles and the journey may seem dim.

Still the mystery of love was divulged now and then...

Because in that same night, they're looking AT THE SAME HEAVEN...

Ballad in the Night

By: Herpha Jane Obod | 05/11/2009 | Literature
Distance could never separate two hearts that beat as one. True love grows not only in the presence of two people who deeply loved each other. Even in the absence of a person dearly loved, the heart can find its way to heaven, reach the stars, and command the wind to reunite two hearts. For a heart that truly loves knows no distance, space, or time. It only knows how to love.

LIFE.. Meaningless

By: Herpha Jane Obod | 26/04/2009 | Literature
What gives meaning to life? Is it something we possess, achieve, or gain? Is it something we do, we believe, and desire? Or is it a product of the past, essence of the present, and hope of the future?

I Love You

By: Herpha Jane Obod | 28/01/2009 | Literature
It shows how love has its own way of manifesting itself, even if we try to ignore it, much more to hide it. Sometimes, love is best felt, not in the presence of words…but through its own language, unheard but seen.
