Many people underestimate the importance of their credit score. Your credit score is used to communicate to creditors whether you are a responsible lender. Before you will be granted any credit, the company will look through you credit report to see whether there are any ‘black marks’ on your report, meaning that you are prone to miss payments, whether your repayments are ever late, or whether you have had any bank charges or CCJ’s. If you are struggling to get credit, but feel like there is no reason for your credit score to be below average, it is worth checking your credit report in detail to check whether there is anything on there which isn’t true.
Many people who have checked their credit reports have found that there is information on there which isn’t necessarily true, which of course affects their ability to be successful in loan and credit card applications. With the credit crunch making banks and building societies more reluctant to lend money, and with the industry heavily relying on people’s credit reports to decide who they lend to, it has never been more important to have a good credit history. Make sure you check your credit report in detail to make sure everything on it is true. If you find anything which you believe to be false, such as a late/missed payment, get in touch with the lender and ask them to remove it from their files (and your credit report). If the company refuses to remove the ‘black mark’ in question, you still have other options. You can report any fault to the Information Commission, where somebody will investigate the ‘black mark’ which is being held against you. If the Information Commission finds that the ‘black mark’ is in fact false, it will then be removed from your credit report. If the query is about any unpaid debt, the Commission will be unable to help you with the matter.
When applying for loans, make sure you check your credit report for anything that seems suspicious. A tarnished credit report can prevent you from being successful in your applications for personal loans. Always compare loans online to get the best deal with APR.
