Eating Right Even When Your Small Business Is Good And Busy

Finding time for eating right when you are on a very busy schedule with your small business, especially if you have to be out on the road, can be very difficult at best. This is especially true if you may not see the same people for months at a time, because you will want to spend as much productive time with them as possible. This can make for extremely long days on the job and dinner may end up being at the very bottom of your priority list. The answer to this dilemma is not, however, to grab a snack from the vending machine on your way to your motel room, forcing you to eat unhealthy foods late at night.

There are options that will enable you to eat more substantial meals and still keep to a strict schedule. For example, if you are traveling with co-workers from your small business and need to discuss the outcome of your meetings or plan for the next day, consider picking up the tab for dinner. If you find that you are unable to conclude your business with the person or persons you are visiting on your current trip, ask if they would consider joining you for a meal. This will enable you to learn a little more about the person in a more relaxed atmosphere, without having to sacrifice dinner.

If you habitually skip meals, sufficient time to eat should be scheduled on your daily planner. If you begin to run into meal time on a road trip, try to remember that the people you are visiting probably have a family and may want to be home for dinner with them.

If you find yourself hosting dinner while out of town, choose a nice, yet not overly expensive, restaurant where you can hopefully find enough privacy to discuss business. It may even be possible to have dinner in a restaurant in the motel in which you are staying. Inviting others with whom you need to discuss your small business-related matters and turning it into a dinner meeting may also be tax deductible, so always be sure to save receipts for meals and other expenses on each trip.

It is so very important, however, to balance your schedule when working near home to enable as much time for meals with your spouse and family. While they need to understand your needs when running your own small business, you must also remember that these relationships are the reason why you strive to be successful -- to enable you to provide for the ones you love.

If you know ahead of time you are going to have to work late, why not contact your family and have them meet you somewhere for dinner? It does not have to be at a fancy restaurant, especially if you have young children. But taking the time out of your schedule to have dinner with the family will do wonders for your relationship and for your own mental and physical health.

Even with your very best planning, though, in some instances it may be better to have the family join you for dinner at work. You can call and order in an evening meal or ask your spouse or other family member to stop on their way to your office and pick something up to share with you when they get there. While eating a decent meal for dinner is important, spending time with your family is absolutely crucial.
