OK you got the call for the facilities maintenance service job…now what?
Be prepared
If your like most new people to the job market, particularly the facilities maintenance field you got the call but you weren’t home, you didn’t have you cell phone with you or you had your phone turned off. Don’t let this happen to you, you’ll miss a great opportunity to make that vital connection to the facilities maintenance hirining manager or Human Resource director for that facility. The key word here is being prepared. Do you know what you plan to discuss? Have you envisioned how the conversation might go? If you haven’t you have some serious home work to do. Make sure that before you call back you are prepared. Have you looked up information on the company? The products it sells, the services it offers. This is going to be a critical step in your preparation for that all important call when you do get the facilities maintenance manager on the line and he ask you why he should hire you for the job.
Doing Your keyword Reasearch
If you have done your research you’ll be prepared to answer this question.. In anticipation of that call be prepared, have a set of questions you would like to ask written out in advance. Some of the questions might be, what would my major job responsibilities be? Who would I report to? Also have a set of keywords and phrases written down so you can refer to them in your conversation written down. For some one just entering the facilities maintenance field these might include keywords or phrases like mechanically adept, hard working, safety conscious, works well with others etc. The idea here is to be relaxed. You’ll be able to be relaxed and confident if you are prepared. You will sound confident and knowledgeable on the phone. Rehearse your answers and keywords and keep your supporting paper work with the keywords close by for reference in case you get stuck.
Listening and asking for the job.
After you have listened to the facilities maintenance or H.R. hiring manager and answered their questions and asked yours, don’t forget to ask for the job! Most job seekers forget this critical point. If you do forget this point you have greatly diminished your chances to land that facilities maintenance job.
