Technological advancement are the latest buzzwords, and people seem to be spending an ever-increasing amount of time just to maintain pace with the latest innovations. A concise example of this scenario is the world of computers. Computers have so much to offer and every day there are new discoveries in this industry. With these new discoveries come new threats to your business, which cannot be overlooked. One solution is to plan and implement an effective computer management program.

Desired Outcome
The key purpose of establishing a computer management program is to ensure that data is never lost permanently. If lost temporarily it should be recoverable within 24 to 48 hours. Another important aspect is to ensure minimal monetary loss both directly and indirectly.

A List Of What To Do And What Not To Do
1. Do take automated and manual backups at regular intervals. Discs come in handy for data storage. However, to protect the current file in use it is essential to have an effective file recovery system.

2. Do not switch off the main power before the window is shut down. The only exception is a situation when your hard drive is not functional. If a program crashes, use the task manager by pressing Ctrl and Alt and Delete.

3. Do install an effective Firewall and Virus protection system.

4. Do not work without an Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS in place. UPS acts as a magical wand in cases of varying voltage frequencies and can prevent a crash.

5. Do have alternates ready as part of a contingency plan. It is always better to have alternate email IDs, Internet connections, and website details in place to ensure a second line working in case of a crash.

6. Do not load many programs while starting your computer. It is also suggested to keep at least 100 to 200 MB space free in your C drive to prevent your computer from slowing down.

7. Do keep a track of software disks and applications that are loaded in your computer since these could be required for reloading or updating.

8. Do not load any external data before scanning for viruses.

An overall management tool required in addition to those already mentioned is to have a tie up with an external vendor who can take care of the technical problems.

These essentials of computer management, if taken into account, can save you both time and money. Precaution is the best way to avoid potential pitfalls. So roll up your sleeves and put into practice these easy to follow imperatives of computer management.

By: O | 10-09-2008
For the following problem, I already have the answer, but I would like to know how they came up with the journal entry on part D of this problem. I already understand parts A through C and the begining of part D but will supply the work and answers for everything just so you can try to explain the journal entry on part D using the same concepts. I would like to know how much it would cost me to get an understanding on half of part D. What is the price if I need the answer urgent vs non urgent?Problem: On January 1 Year 1 HDC issues $2,000,000 face value, 8 percent semiannual coupon bond on the market priced to yield 10 percent, compounded semiannually. The bonds require HDC to make semiannual payments of 4 percent of face value, on Jun 30 and December 31 of each year. On January 1, year 2, the bonds traded in the market at a price to yield 6 percent, compounded semiannually. On this date, HDC repurchased all of the bonds on the open market and retire them. Give its jornal entry to record the repurchase. Answer:$ 2,000,000 * .78941 (acquired from the present value single chart using 8 periods and 3% interest) =  1,227,820 + 2,000,000*0.04(interest of the bond)*7.01069(acquired from the present value Anuity chart using 8 periods and 3% interest) = 2,140,395 [This is the price they must pay to recall these bonds.
