Management Styles of Decision Makers - I

Hasan A. Yahya, Professor of Sociology and Administration There are different thinking styles among different decision makers or leaders? They use certain  terminology or words. Decision makers may be  executives, teachers and principals,  managers, legislators,  community leaders all share decision maker abilities. In general, thinking styles we argue, are a production of  three domains: the cognitive, the  personal, and the social domains.

Research found different thinking styles among different personnel. The CEOs, executive, judicial, leaders, legislators, senators and school personnel. Different linguistic terminology and words are also used differently among the groups. Even though each category have its own thinking style, and its own linguistic terminology types, they  all are interested to collect the necessary  information for decision making in their day-to-day jobs. In this article we explain the skills needed and the terms used to collect information for the decision making purpose. In this part we deal with Executive officers,  and CEOs.

Executives and CEOs as leaders,   usually use the linguistic terms or words which mostly effective to collect information for decision making purposes. These terms, are Who? When? What, And How?  For example: they ask about who said?  who did?  when they did it? what they did? and how they did it? They usually ask question or ask for briefing information, like, you said that …… What do you mean by or Does this mean ……? Or means ……..what? They are interested to know more about describing real situations in order to understand what happened, in order to solve the problem posed by the situation or the problem. In any case of leadership several skills are needed?

They have certain abilities like ability to analyze, to summarize, and to synthesize.  In the case of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), and managers they are interested in analysis through the following questions: Who said? Who brought the information? What agency contributed to disseminate the information in this way? In addition, other qualities are required. To summarize… What exactly in few words was the problem? Synthesize the ideas or the opponents of this type of information? Who did? Names are important, therefore, who caused the problem?

To synthesize: to repeat back, like … is a final briefing of what, when, how, and where. It is to finally verify the information collected about certain event before making decisions.  (391  words) www.hasanyahya.com
