The Road to Success Can Be Filled with Sabotage

Oftentimes, one of the biggest obstacles of a successful business comes from within our own mind. Our brains transmit many signals that send us in a variety of directions, and many times those signals lead us in the direction of fear.

Research indicates that how a person views their own abilities in the workplace has a direct impact on how they respond to success. For example, those who thought their capabilities could not change became more anxious when faced with dramatic success. This caused their productivity and performance to decline, while those who thought they could change their abilities were not affected in this manner.

Statistics show that negativity and internal stress are the key factors in self-sabotage. We sabotage because we focus on negativity; we focus on failure. Research shows that individuals have a fear of failure, but too often the real problem is fear of success.  The constant barrage of negative self-talk stimulates anxiety, which results in decreased performance – and more negativity. The cycle continues.

Self-sabotage is the key factor that prevents a business from moving forward.  We can sabotage ourselves in a variety of ways, stopping ourselves from enjoying the success we desire.  To ensure that our businesses grow and prosper, it is vital that we learn how to push through unproductive attitudes and negativity.

 Here are some tips to help you move beyond self-sabotage.

Get out and network, you'll feel more alive and energized.  You will also have a chance to meet new people, possibly creating new opportunities to take your business to the next level.

Have a purpose, not just a list of things to do. Make plans -   plan to meet one new person for lunch each week.  Every effort should be well planned and carried out.

Create a support system, which will help you move to another step if you get stuck.  Sometimes your support team is all you need to prevent yourself from going down an unproductive path.

Having a clear vision of where you want your business to go. Create a roadmap to help you move from where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow.  Without a roadmap, it's easy to go in the wrong direction.

Have goals and objectives to help you stay focused an on track.

Marketing plans are important to help keep you on course.  When your motivation is running low, a written marketing plan can keep you focused and going in the right direction.

Make a decision to be successful.  Stop unproductive, self-sabotaging behavior in its tracks, and see how things begin to shift when we change our perspective.

Think long term. A long-term action strategy is vital in preventing you from hampering your progress.

Recognize yourself.  Since there is no one else quite like you, celebrate your uniqueness.  You know that you have a responsibility to step up and show others who you really are.
