Which Safety Certification does the Safety Professional Need?

It is often asked around the safety professional world “Which safety certificate or certifications is needed”?  Prudent safety professionals get their safety certification training and safety certificates from numerous training entities and sources.  There are at least ten pages of information regarding safety certifications, certification in safety, certification safety programs, national safety certification and much more on the internet.  The ultimate training certification would most likely be the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.  In the world of practical safety used by field, factory or manufacturing hands-on professionals, the CSP would be optimal. However, there are many other certifications for those who are non-degreed but do seek health and safety designated certifications in the occupational health and safety fields.

Whether the safety professional seeks technical safety training certification, compliance (OSHA or governmental) certifications or behavioral safety certifications, the one that is missing from the vast arsenal of courses and certification programs is the one from the Zero Injury Institute (zeroinjuryinstitute.com).  The set of certifications available, first developed for the construction industry, is vastly different and vastly important for the prevention of workplace injury.  The Zero Injury Institute certification courses incorporate multiple levels of employment classifications, which, if each were zero certified, would instantly propel a company to move in the direction of and with the potential of reaching zero injury for sustained periods of time.  Unless a safety certification course is available to all levels of employees from CEO to labor, the potential for injury prevention and opportunity to achieve zero injury minimally exists. With roles defined at each classification level and supervision and management guiding all workers with support, needed resources and equipment, zero is attainable.

In the near future Zero Injury Institute will have zero injury certification courses for most American industries.  With zero injury occupational safety certifications included as a tool set for management and labor, the likelihood of reduced injury and illness claims is abundant.  When zero injury certification is merged with superior behavior techniques and knowledge of governmental regulations, the world of safety will look much different.

Please remember, it is just as important for the winning firm to know precisely why it won the contact as it is for the unselected firm. It could be that the winning contractor only did so because of the default of others, or it may be that your tender was thousand below other tenders, in which case your pricing strategy may be costing you profits.
