The American Diabetes Association is a non profit organization that is dedicated to funding diabetes research and providing advocacy for diabetics and educating the public about the disease diabetes. Their mission is to cure and prevent diabetes as well as improving the lives of all of the people who are affected by the disease.
The American Diabetes Association funds research, provides information and services to diabetics, the families of diabetics and health professionals, publishes scientific findings about the disease and is very involved in the advocacy of scientific research as well as for the rights of people who suffer from this illness.
This association has often been in the spotlight as its main goal is to help improve the lives of those suffering from a debilitating disease. They are also responsible for helping to educate millions of people on the inner workings of the disease.
A visit to their official website will provide you with information about the disease, and facts about diabetic nutrition, the importance of exercise and the role weight loss plays with the disease, informational pages for families and health professionals and articles on the research about and the prevention of diabetes. They even have a donations page and a gift shop.
Overall, the American Diabetes Association is a fantastic organization. Diabetes is one of the most rampant diseases in the world and can affect people of all ages. Before the American Diabetes Association was founded, diabetics carried a stigma attached to them because most people did not understand about how the disease worked. Thanks to the ADA, the public is becoming more and more aware of ways to help further the cause for the eradication of the disease.
One of the most interesting parts of the American Diabetes Association's website is the Diabetes Risk Test. This is a test in which you enter some personal stats and the test kicks back how likely you are (or aren't) to develop the disease and what you can do to minimize your risk. Sometimes minimizing your risk is as simple as eating a healthy diet and exercising and staying active.
There are more than twenty million people in the United States who suffer from diabetes. Type two diabetes is the most common-it is a condition in which either the cells of the body ignore the body's insulin production or the body does not produce enough insulin to be effective.
Type 2 diabetes includes hypoglycemia, a very common condition. The American Diabetes Association is an association that is devoted to educating the public about the disease as well as funding research and publishing information about it. Thanks to the American Diabetes Association, most people are now aware the diabetes can be prevented and that while it can be a complicated disease, the people who have it can lead mostly normal lives.
The ADA is a fantastic organization and worth any donation you might want to send their way. With a disease as common as diabetes, isn't it important that the public knows as much as possible?
