So you've finally got your own website all set up. You have compelling content, relevant products to sell, and you deliver fantastic value to every visitor. The only problem you have now is . . . where to get those visitors! Getting traffic to your website can be confusing and frustrating if you don't know how to do it.
There are a number of ways to drive traffic to your website. One way which is practically guaranteed is to use Pay Per Click. If you're not familiar with this term, it simply means that set up an account with Google Adwords, write a three-line ad, choose relevant search terms, set a bid price, and press 'go.' Then whenever people search on Google for the search terms you've chosen, your ad will show up on the right-hand side of the screen. Based on your bid price, you will pay for each time somebody clicks on your ad and goes through to your website. The great thing about Pay Per Click is that you are virtually guaranteed to get visitors to your site. The downside, though, is that it does cost you money. If you do choose to use Pay Per Click, you will want to make sure that your website is one that people will want to come back to again and again.
Another way you can drive traffic to your site is to get it ranked in the search engines. This is known as Search Engine Optimization, or 'SEO.' The problem with this is that it can be very complicated, as well as very competitive. If you are tech-savvy and good at research, you do a search online for 'SEO' and you will find mountains of information on how to get your site ranked in the search engine results pages. If you are able to implement the information, you will find yourself getting totally free targeted traffic from people's web searches.
Another method of getting traffic is reciprocal links. This can be a little controversial these days, because of changes in the way search engines view reciprocal links. It used to be that Google and friends counted any links in to your website as 'backlinks,' which enhance your site's ranking. They've now caught on to the fact that many website owners are trading links with each other to try and improve their search engine ranking. Reciprocal links may not help your site's ranking any more, but they still can be a valuable way to drive targeted traffic to your site. Imagine this: you're surfing the net looking for information on how to fix your vehicle. You find a site with some relevant information about fixing cars, but nothing related to your specific make and model. You go to the site's 'resources' or 'links' page, and there you find a link to a page that talks about your exact vehicle, so you surf on over there to find exactly what you wanted. That's how reciprocal links can deliver traffic directly to your site.
There are many more ways to drive targeted traffic to your website. Put your creativity and imagination to use, and you will be able to come up with many more. Make it your goal to achieve many small streams of traffic, and you will eventually end up with a floor of valuable site visitors.
