Press Release Writing – Some Ideas For Writing Great Press Releases
A quality press release manages to be informative and persuasive while remain brief and to the point. Writing an effective press release does not take an expert in the field, but keeping the following tips in mind is a good idea:
The topic of your press release should be considered news worthy, or it will be discarded as spam email without receiving a second look.
The headline will set the atmosphere for your entire press release. With that in mind, the headline should be strong enough to hold the attention and interest of the reader.
The first paragraph should live up to the promise made by your headline. By doing this, your reader's excitement will hopefully remain from start to finish of the press release.
Only give the reader the facts. The writing should be interesting, but remember is meant to perform a specific task. Your writing should maintain the reader's interest, but it should always remain informative.
Action verbs should always take precedence over adverbs and adjectives. Press releases have no room for flowery, unnecessary words. Just use the write words to set the mood and convey your message the most effectively.
Utilize proper spelling and grammar. Always proofread to make sure sentences are properly constructed with the correct punctuation in place. Be very careful not to miss spelling mistakes because they can make you look sloppy, unprofessional and uneducated.
Give credit to all sources used. Facts, figures, and quotes in the press release should properly cited to prevent people from questioning your authenticity.
Answer the what, when, where, why, and how questions. Make sure to provide the necessary details, so customers will have a idea of the message you are conveying. Also, you should double check your contact details to make sure they are correct in case customers have questions.
Last but not least, always include a brief paragraph about your website or company at the end of the release. By doing this, readers have the necessary background information about what you are representing and motivation to visit your site.
