So you've built your website, plugged in some affiliate programs, and you're just not meeting your financial goals. What can you do to make more money?
I'll give you a quick list of strategies for making more money from affiliate products.
1. Make sure your affiliate products, services and companies match your website's content and interest your readers.
This can be stretched a little if you know your customer base well. A recipe site, for example, can expand its affiliate interests to include ingredients, kitchen equipment, and kitchen accessories, but shouldn't get too far from the actual preparation of food. Someone looking for a recipe for dinner may not be too interested in buying party supplies or wines.
The best way to increase your affiliate earnings is to target your content to your traffic according to your knowledge of that traffic.
2. Pre-sell your products.
Every page on your website should be written with an affiliate product in mind. Using the recipe site example again, every recipe should have a link to a page that presells a utensil, tool, ingredient or cookbook that is an affiliate product of particular use or interest to the person using the recipe.
3. Draw your readers clearly and easily from every page on your site to your pre-sell pages to your sales page and then to the merchant site.
Your presell page can be a content page of any kind, including a product comparison page, and has a link to your sales page. A sales page is a page that is only about the product, explaining the features and associated benefits of the product, and other content that invites the click to the merchant site.
The easiest way to do this is with text links. Your article may have one or two affiliate links in it. You can include "read more about" links at the bottom of the article. Each page should also have a link right to the product on the merchant's site, something like "click here if you're ready to buy".
4. Write product reviews and product comparisons.
Once you know the features and benefits of your product, find other products to compare it to.
5. Offer incentives.
Offer rebates (refund customers your affiliate commissions), free reports, or negotiate a promotion with the merchant.
6. Use testimonials.
The easiest way to get testimonials is to ask for them. You can also link them to your incentives.
7. Test different kinds of links.
What kind of links are there?
- Text links
- Banner links
- Search boxes
- Link to merchant's home page
- Product-specific links
- Combinations of different links
