Are We Blinded by our Own Idea's?

The hardest part about marketing is that our own idea of how good a novel is when we're writing it. Most writers place themselves on a higher level then their fame fame. It is easy to know that you have what it takes to write a novel but when it comes down to it  - does anyone know you are a writer. Most writers believe in joining yahoo groups and Google groups for writers but one important thing to remember is that an Author like you probably won't buy your novel. Readers of novels are among the many but how you reach them sometimes is a problem.

Many writers spend their whole career looking for the right Agent and some people never get published because of it. It is our own ideas that every Author should have an Agent or a publisher is what stops writers from becoming famous. People judge you as a writer on whether you have been published and are there any reviews of your writing easily seen on the web.

Everyone who speaks about promotion says the same thing. You need business cards, you need a website or a publicist and they never really give you any information on how to get these things in the readers hands. The I is a powerful tool but there are so many websites that are uploaded regularly and the trick to marketing is to get people to know you exist. If you have a house along a busy intersection then yard signs will definitely get you known as people pass by and read the sign. In this instance a website would definitely come in handy because you can place it on the yard sign. If you have 15000 dollars and you can afford to advertise on the trains that is a great way to get known.

Some writers also in NYC go to the crowded streets of 125th Street and sell there novels for half the price on the busy street. Sometimes when you look at it on a crowded street how many people are going to want to stop and talk to you. A small advertisement in your local bookstore is a great thing. People come into the store and they see an advertisement for your book and it will grab their attention.

The question here is our own ideas sometimes lead us to failure because when our plan doesn't work we don't have a plan B. Even though Author's are on a budget it may be more economical to find an Agency that can give your books exposure on the web rather you saving every dollar and then using it to purchase your own books to sell at cost. Publishers know that Authors have a tendency to buy a large amount of their own books, but an Author's idea of success comes from readers knowing who you are.

Once you have built your website make sure that you name it something that people will be looking for on the web. To name a website after your own name is good but remember genre names are what people type in the search box when they are looking for books they love to read.
