Telemarketing - What is it and Good Practises to Execute

Telemarketing is a well known way of marketing directly to a customer, it involves a salesperson talking directly to people that are potential customers and respectively trying to sell the customer a product or service. The main method for doing telemarketing is over the phone even though there are other ways as well including face to face.

Telemarketing can be from a lot of different places including offices and the home. One type of telemarketing is called "automated telemarketing" which involves a pre-recorded message, this type of telemarketing has been considered annoying by many people but it has also been proven to be a informative and successful method of telemarketing.

Telemarketing is usually determined on existing customers, so companies that have existing databases of customers information will tend to go through the list of numbers they have a attempt to sell or offer the customer with more or upgraded products. There are many other ways that companies get hold of numbers which include requests for information from customers e.g. a potential customer signs up information when a product becomes available. Also information can be obtained via application forms, public telephone lists and many other means.

This method of communication with customers can be very helpful for businesses as it can provide insight into how much of a certain product is being bought in different areas. It also allows for a salesperson to interact with the customer and answer questions where necessary, also along with this the customer has the opportunity to ask questions directly. Also through the use of telemarketing a salesperson can explain to a customer in a broken down way, how things work if they product or service contains complex information or procedures.

There are people that find telemarketing calls a nuisance, this is why there are some very basic things that should really be followed by companies if they want to be successful using telemarketing. Read below for a few of the things that should NOT be done when using telemarketing.

You should never push a product or service onto a customer so much that they feel that you are forcing them to buy your product; this is not taken well by the public and is frowned upon.

You should make your calls at a time of day that is reasonable so that a potential customer will be in but not when they are sitting down to eat and relax as many people do not enjoy calls at these times. The best way to get the most out of telemarketing would be too research your customers first and even ask when a good time to call will be.

Other types of telemarketing may be used throughout your job and day to day life all the time where you ay be talking to your customers regularly or following up campaigns.

All in all telemarketing is an effective yet delicate practise which can make or break your company depending on how you carry it out. If you carry it out well and get on your customers side then you can become very successful.
