A Case of No Virginity, No Marriage in France

How are the sexual attitudes in our world today? Are women free from socially demeaning beliefs? We thought this was long gone and that the modern-day woman was not intimidated by religious or social beliefs but we might be wrong. In France, a Muslim marriage was annulled on the basis that the woman was not a virgin as she claimed to be. The court used no virginity, no marriage slogan and referred this as chastity fraud but the universal acclaim saw this as an abuse of women's right. They might be seen as secular laws but they were out to defend human rights. The French justice minister Rachida Dati ordered an appeal for this particular case. The Muslim religious concerns were used in making the verdict of annulling the marriage. It is a humiliating moment for this woman who was trying by all means to get out of the failed marriage because of a human demeaning excuse.

Women should stand behind such a woman who is brave enough to fight for her liberty. The secretary of state for urban affairs for France appealed the verdict which was cited as a practice against women emancipation. The prolonged attention on this no virginity, no marriage case will be an eye-opener for many women. They should consider reviewing the Muslim religious concern since times have changed. She will be the symbol for the much pressure to liberalize women. The ten month's marriage annulment was brought to the media's attention last Thursday when the husband confessed in court that the prenuptial claims of virginity were not true. The judge put into consideration that the wife used virginity assurances to woo the husband into marriage.

If no virginity, no marriage slogan is used this will be reducing all women to goods which can be renounced any time even after acquisition procedures are finished. Goods once sold are never returned according to many company rules so this is lacking nay respect for the woman. Men would use such an opportunity to pretend to discover defects in their wives after a short time of being together. In France, there was no security for women rights but the regression reflected in this case could not be comprehended. In fact France conservative secretary for social solidarity referred to the case as an open violation against women integrity and the most fundamental human rights. In France Islam is spreading at a very high rate thus bringing the existing controversies between the religious and the social values.

The fact that both husband and wife are Muslims shows how people in France are facing emotional challenges concerning the religion and the society. However as it was echoed by the French urban affairs minister, the case would have provoked the same emotions even if the involved parties were non-Muslims. The country handles more than 705 marriage annulment cases per year but never on the no virginity, no marriage basis. It is very humiliated to be seen as a symbol whereas your humanity  elements are assumed and the stereotypes favored. The court should assist women to regain self identity and independence.
