Stunning Sensory Stimulation
We rely on our eyes, sometimes at the expense of our other senses. They can become dulled without attention and use. This fun-filled exercise awakens you once again to the mystery of sound, touch, smell, and taste.
Time for Exercise: 30 minutes
Properties Required: Blindfold
Items for stimulating these senses: sound, touch, smell, taste. Select nine or more items for each sense. Some suggestions are:
- Sound: wind chimes, gong, music box, Velcro strip, crinkly paper, crystal goblet, rattle, whistle, spoons
- Touch: warm lotion, powder, bath sponge, feathers, silk, fur, wooden massage roller, cotton balls, ice cubes, pot scrubber, rough fabrics, wool, leather
- Smell: dried herbs and spices, body powder, women’s perfume, men’s aftershave, fish sauce, coffee, cheese, incense, fresh flowers
- Taste: fruits, chocolate, candies, nuts, hot sauce, vegetables, liqueurs, breads, cheeses, olives, anchovies
Steps:
1.Gather your sound, touch, smell, and taste properties.
2.Sit your lover down and blindfold him.
3.Lean close and whisper playfully into his ear something such as: “If you would like to, I’ll take you on a wonderful journey through the world of your senses. ”
4.Begin with the sense of sound. Using your selected items, make each sound for approximately 15 seconds. Take a 15-second break between sounds.
5.After a minute’s pause, proceed to the sense of touch. Gently stroke or tickle your lover’s skin—face, neck, arms, hands—with the items in your touch toolkit. Go slowly, 15 seconds per item with a 15-second break between, works well.
6.Move on to smell and finally taste, proceeding as before. When exploring taste, feed dainty bits to your partner with your fingers or daringly pass them mouth-to-mouth.
Comments:
Go very slowly, so that your partner can respond to each exquisite sensation. Be daring and playful but also be respectful. If you are the receiver, endeavor to simply experience the sensation, not to identify or name it. Do this again another day, switching roles. Use different sense stimulators.
