In praise of husbands -- the unsung heroes

Heroes are those human beings that accomplish great tasks that the meek and weak cannot even begin to touch. The entertainment industry in Hollywood produces a ton of movies depicting Superman and other heroes that perform great acts. The largest movie producer in the world is in reality India which produces more movies per year than any other single country and the Indians know a hero when they see them. Names like Amitabh Bacchan, Rajnikant, Vijay and such are easily recognized by the movie going audience as nothing short of superheroes. These guys save dames in distress, root out evil and come home with honors.

What about soldiers and other men in uniform that perform heroic acts. As soon as the word heroic is used, one cannot but remember the great heroic acts performed by the police and fire men of New York City in the aftermath of September 11. These heroes saved the lives of hundreds of people, some even died in the line of duty. These are heroes we read about in the newspaper and magazines. There are heroes in peace too such as the people of Salvation Army that take care of the less fortunate amongst us and help them to feed and clothe.

But then what about mundane husbands. Married with children, going to work everyday and bringing back some money to feed and clothe the family and providing for a shelter, education for the children and sometimes a little left over for the entertainment of the family. These husbands try their best to keep their wives happy, hug and watch their children grow figuratively speaking. Some work so hard that they miss out on the growing years of their children in the pursuit of keeping them well taken care of.

These husbands are the unsung heroes. You don’t see articles written about them in your local newspaper except in the obituaries column when their time has passed. This article is a call to all wives everywhere in the world to take a moment and praise your husband for all that he has done for you. Take a moment to appreciate the pain and suffering that he goes through every day, taking abuse from coworkers, bosses, customers and subordinates. He is doing all this so the family can survive and prosper. He deserves praise too. Give it to him with your whole heart!
