Due to financial commitments, some couples may find that they need to travel on business or in order to impress their company enough to get a promotion. There are other couples in the military and so forth that find the need to be separate for long periods of time and this can put incredible strain on the marriage and couples can encounter marriage problems that go well beyond what other couples are dealing with.
It can be a difficult and frustrating time when you are separated from your spouse for long periods of time, but there are some things that you can do to make the separation a little bit easier. One thing that works really well is using some sort of video imaging to communicate. It really helps make you feel more connected than you will with a telephone call, text message or e-mail. Being able to communicate face to face has so many advantages and makes you feel, even if just for a few moments like you are really together.
Shipping small care packages or sending pictures to them during the absence is a nice way to let them know they're in your thoughts. This is another way of showing them you are still thinking about them while they're gone.
Sending a card that's funny or romantic, or writing a personal note talking about your relationship is a good way to show your caring spirit. Don't talk too much about missing them, you don't want to focus on them being gone.
The last and final thing that I cannot stress enough is to make sure that you have a support group. This is so important and something that most military personnel have a true support group of people who are in the same situation and with the same issues that you are facing. It can be difficult when all your friends are attached and when you go out with them you feel like a third wheel. You want to be around married people, but those who have an absent spouse so that they really understand what you are going through. It is important not to bond too much with lonely singles, because frankly you are not single, and this could lead to infidelity. If you can't find a support group, then be sure to help create one in your area to not only benefit yourself but others that are suffering with an absent spouse. It is important to stay committed to your relationship, while having someone to commiserate with.
