Wedding Planning: How To Get The Groom Involved

The moment that you have waited for has arrived. Your boyfriend has finally popped the question! Congratulations! Being engaged is one of the most important events in a woman's life and closing the deal is exciting for the men. Now the fun really begins-planning the wedding. There are so many things to consider when coordinating a wedding. From choosing a wedding gown, bridal jewelry, and shoes to booking a venue, choosing a menu, and buying bridesmaids gifts...the list goes on. It is difficult for anyone to try to tackle it alone. Some brides have a difficult time getting help from the groom. What are some ways to make wedding planning a little more appealing to the male species? Here are a few suggestions from the experts on how to involve your groom in the wedding plans.

Communication is the key. Sometimes you have to evaluate why he refuses to help. Is it actually refusal or is he simply oblivious to the fact that you desire his help? Let him know how important it is to you for him to help with the wedding. Assure him that the wedding is for the both of you.

Make a Task List and share it. Most men are completely unaware of the details involved in wedding planning. He needs to know that not everything can be left up to your bridesmaids (i.e. purchasing bridesmaids gifts). He may take it a little more seriously if he sees all of your responsibilities in black and white.

Most men love Fun and Entertainment. Allow him to handle the entertainment portion of the wedding. You might ask him to create a CD with both of your favorite love songs.

Let him fully control the "fun stuff"! Warning: Remind him that your wedding entertainment will not consist of a big screen TV and/or the sports channel. After you have covered your bases, leave it up to him-he will not let you down.

Plan a taste-testing date. Many caterers schedule taste-testing appointments in order to recruit clients. Use this as an incentive to get your hubby-to-be involved in choosing the caterer. You can also get his input on selecting the menu. He will love the idea of going out to dinner free of charge.

Allow the groom to express himself-through gifts that is. Make it the groom's responsibility to choose gifts for the groomsmen, Officiant, ring bearer, and parents. Keep in mind, it is best for the bride to choose her own bridesmaids gifts. After all, they are her closest friends. Who better to choose the gifts for the bridesmaids, than the bride?

He is most likely looking forward to the Honeymoon! Express to the groom-to-be that in order for there to be a honeymoon, a wedding has to take place first. This may motivate him to want to participate. Allow him to handle all of the honeymoon accommodations.

It is safe to say that more men would get involved in wedding planning if they are given an extra push or two. Giving smaller tasks such as selecting attendants gifts is not too overwhelming. Remember, do not allow the groom to choose your bridesmaids gifts-it may make room for an embarrassing moment.
