Gastric Sleeve In The Dominican Republic Is the Ideal Solution For Obesity

Gastric sleeve in the Dominican Republic has become a trend among the medical tourists. It involves transforming the stomach into a thin long tube like structure. This is done by stapling it lengthwise and removing the extra part of the stomach.

The difference between gastric bypass and gastric sleeve (medically known as sleeve gastrectomy) is that in the latter, food passes in the same manner as it used to before the surgery. The only thing that happens here is that the stomach gets smaller after the stapling process and its food holding capacity decreases. Thus, it stretches faster and gives the feeling of fullness quicker. The end result is that the patient eats less and consequently, loses weight.

On the other hand, after gastric bypass, food passes through the pocket created in the stomach and enters directly into the jejunum, the middle part of small intestine.

Who Opts For Gastric Sleeve?

This cosmetic surgery is ideal for very large people who are regarded as high risk patients for long surgeries. Such people need to undergo a two-stage operation. Gastric sleeve is the first stage. The second is done after some months when the patient loses substantial amount of weight and the risk of further surgeries diminishes. Usually, the second stage is either a gastric bypass or pancreatico-biliary diversion.

The interesting part of Gastric sleeve in the Dominican Republic is that about 50 percent of patients hardly require the second stage of operation. This is because they already lose a good amount of weight through the first stage and need no further surgery. There have been patients who have lost up to 70 percent of their extra weight through gastric sleeve!

Bright Sides

· There is no disconnecting and reconnecting of intestines in this surgical procedure.

· Technically, it’s a simpler process than gastric bypass.

· For people with BMI (body mass index) above 60, it is considered a safe form of surgery.

The Second Stage

After the first stage operation, i.e., gastric sleeve, the second stage operation is conducted 8-12 months later. Here, the stomach that was converted into a tube structure in the first process is again converted into a duodenal switch or formal gastric bypass. This allows more weight loss and gives a more permanent solution for obesity.

Both stages of operation are carried out with a laparoscope. This renders the benefit of shorter incisions, fewer complications related to incisions, less pain, and quicker recovery.

The safety issues as well as the after effects of surgery are well handled by the surgeons of Dominican Republic. They explain all the issues concerning the surgery during their first meeting with you. One of the reasons why medical tourism is thriving at this place is the committed and caring attitude of the highly qualified surgeons.

So, if you wish to get freedom from obesity, it’s time you opted for gastric sleeve in the Dominican Republic.
