Hair loss is a dilemma faced not only by men but women as well. Although hair loss usually happens once they step into their 30's, it does not target only a specific age range. Nobody is impervious of hair loss. Hair loss or balding is caused by several factors including genes, lifestyle, stress, medications, trauma, poor nutrition and many more. Because hair loss is becoming very common, most people consider it as a normal variation rather than a disease. Thanks to vast researches and studies, there are now different ways on how to treat hair loss. Some are products that can be bought over the counter, some are expensive procedures while others can be made from Mother Nature's natural ingredients.
1. Minoxidil is one of the most popular over-the-counter products used for treating hair loss. It can be bought without doctor's prescription and over the years, it has been proven that Minoxidil is an effective compound that treats two forms of hair loss, the alopecia areata and the androgenetic alopecia. This liquid medication is used twice a day by rubbing small amounts in the scalp. It helps to regrow the hair and avoid further hair loss. A user may experience hair regrowth or slower rate of loosing hair, other may experience both. Once a new hair is formed, it would appear shorter and thinner than the usual hair strands. However, the outcome of course, takes a few months before you can see visible results. If there are no signs of effectiveness after using it for six months, it is better to discontinue use and seek professional help. Excessive application of Minoxidil may sometimes cause scalp irritation.
2. Luckily, science has discovered ways to help those who suffer from hair loss through surgical procedures. There are what they call hair transplants and scalp reduction. For the hair transplants, the surgeon takes plugs of skin either from your back or side part of your scalp and each contains several strands of hair. Then, it will be attached to the bald sections of the affected person's head. As for the scalp reduction, it is a procedure that reduces the bald area of the head. The hairless scalp will be extracted and will be closed and covered by the scalp filled with natural hair. Most of the time, scalp reduction is combined with hair transplant to create a natural-looking hairline, especially for those who experiences massive hair loss.
3. When all medications and procedures fail, you have the option to wear a wig and other kinds of hairpieces instead. It can be used to hide temporary balding as well as permanent hair loss. It is made up of synthetic hair planted into a nylon netting to fit one's head. Nowadays, there are quality hairpieces that are created from authentic human hair that would look natural for those wear it. One may also choose to have a hair weaving, which requires attaching long pieces of hair, by sewing or braiding, to the existing strands of hair.
