Neck rejuvenation surgery, or a necklift, is a procedure known to be helpful in reducing the look of aging on the neck. With the inevitable natural progression of age, wrinkling, sun damage, weight gain and loss can contribute to the overall aging process. The process can provide dramatic results if it is either done by itself or with other procedures.
Patients who have loose or sagging skin underneath the chin or in the neck area may benefit from this type of surgery. Fatty deposits in the neck region may be removed via liposuction, and people with visible banding in the neck may have this procedure done in order to smooth out the areas. The best patients for this surgery are those with nice skin tone and elasticity, as well as those who have a layer of fat under the skin, and right above the neck muscles.
Neck rejuvenation procedures, otherwise known as necklifts, may be performed as an outpatient procedure, using local anesthesia. Depending upon the type of procedures you wish to undergo, general anesthesia can be recommended.
There are many methods of accomplishing the necklift. Lasers get used to tighten the skin in necklifts that is minimally loose, while liposuction in the neck area is done through tiny incisions right behind the ears and under the chin. Small cannulas are then used to suction away fatty deposits in the neck area.
When there is excess skin, a complete necklift may be in order. When a necklift is accomplished, the skin is pulled back and up-to decide where the "new" neck skin will go, all excess skin will then be removed. This, in effect gives the person a new and much more refined neck and jaw line. The beauty is that the incisions get carefully hidden behind the ears.
Your surgeon will be a vital source of information and education who can determine what is the most effective way to proceed for you. If there is a combination of procedures you want accomplished, let your surgeon be aware so that they are able to map out the best method of action for you.
After surgery, you should expect to experience some swelling and discomfort. If there is any bruising, it will be easy to cover up with make-up- and it will subside within one week. Swelling and bruising are generally dimished within a week. An elastic garment can be applied to the area- it is critical to the healing process that all bandages which are requested to be worn, are worn appropriately and as recommended. There could be sutures that need removal; those will be taken out after one week, perhaps 10 days. The healing process will happen over the next few months, with your neck going back to its more natural shape and texture.
You can expect to see a more youthful, aesthetically pleasing profile after surgery. Most people are able to return to normal activities within one day or so. If you have questions or concerns, or especially if you experience undue pain, it is important to reach the physician immediately to inform them of anything unusual.
To find out if this is the correct procedure for you, contact a board certified plastic surgeon who can help guide you through the process of making these decisions.
Take your time finding someone you can trust, and feel comfortable with, to perform this procedure for you. Make sure it's a highly qualified health professional with expertise in the specialty you are interested in.

Lamenectomy Damage to Toes and Lower Legs
By: don hjelmseth | 27-08-2008
Had a lamenectomy in the summer of 2003. Have not had feeling in the toes, both feet since. I stumble, have pain in my calves, and in general discomfort in the lower legs. I am 73 years of age, 6', 150 lbs and active. Hiked 7 miles round trip with a fifteen hundred foot gain two days ago in our Rocky Mountains. However, could hardly walk at the end of the hike. Toes and soles of feet non functioning at best. Is there any hope for this old mountain goat? Anyone out there wiith a word of hope will be very much appreciated.
