Joint pain relief - take placebo instead of drug combo

A federally funded research made a comparison of the supplements together or alone, against Celebrex (celecoxib) or placebo in at least 1,500 patients suffering from knee pain resulting from osteoarthritis. According to a report that appeared in New England Journal of Medicine, the combination did not give better effects than placebo on mild pain relief. But placebo was quite effective as more than 60 per cent of patients reported that pain was reduced by at least 20 per cent.

Smoking can be harmful to your teeth

Smoking cigarettes was always claimed to be perilous for your heart. Now it appears that it can be harmful to your teeth as well. According to a research in the Journal of Dental Research, men who smoke are about twice as prone to necessitate root canal treatment as men who have never smoked cigarettes. The research, which took almost three decades, states that the risk for people smoking cigarettes rose with more years of smoking and diminished with length of abstinence. It suggests a dose-response relationship. According to an online report that is to be published in the April issue of the Journal of Dental Research, there is a difference about smoking cigars and pipe. Although they are related to periodontal disease and tooth loss, they were not importantly related to root canal treatment.

Depressed kids are prone to use Ecstasy as adults

A study in the British Medical Journal suggests that depressed or anxious children are at a risk of using the party drug Ecstasy in their adulthood. In 1983 Dutch researchers examined 1,500 children at the average age of nine. When the experts checked the situation 14 years later, it appeared that those who had suffered from anxiety or depression in childhood were more prone to use the drug Ecstasy. The team of scientists from the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam examined the 1,580 children as part of a long-term population study.

Older mothers are more prone to have non-identical twins

According to a Dutch research in the Journal of Human Reproduction, older women are more prone to have non-identical twins. The reason lays in the fact that their hormones often go into overdrive so the women have multiple ovulations during the same menstrual cycle.
The experts stated that it was the first documentation that as women get older, increased levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) influence multiple follicular growth in body cycles and contribute to twinning.
