What Are Facial Peelings?

Facial peelings are skin restorative procedures that you can do at home using a kit or have them done by a dermatologist. These are common treatments for skin care problems and to reduce the effects of aging and the damage caused to the face by exposure to the sun over a period of time. It is used to help lessen the visual appearance of dark spots on the face caused by hyperpigmentation, acne scars, age spots or other skin irregularities that can develop.

The peelings (http://www.vfhcinc.com/procedures.html) that you can purchase at pharmacies and health stores contain the same active ingredients as those used by the dermatologists, but in lower concentrations. The lower concentrations of the chemicals means that you can safely use them at home without the need for medical supervision as long as you follow the detailed instructions provided on how to use the products.

The solution or cream that you apply to your face contains chemicals that will gently peel away the outer layer of the skin leaving a new and fresher layer. This helps you reverse the signs of aging and have smoother, softer skin that does not have the visible flaws of the outer layer.

If you choose to have medical grade peelings (http://www.vfhcinc.com/aesthetic.html) done by a specialist, the chemicals used with be stronger and you may have a bit more discomfort that those designed for home use. This is because the stronger chemicals or laser treatments used by dermatologists peel away more layers of the skin, thus going much deeper.

This helps to remove or lessen the skin problems you are having must faster. If you do have deep acne scars, you will probably need a medical peeling by a professional as the home kits are not designed for this level of skin problems. At the same time, if your skin problems are severe or if you have large patches of pigmentation, you will not be a good candidate for any type of chemical peel.

Since you are using chemicals on your skin, peelings do carry a risk of side effects. Depending on your skin type, they may result in lightening the skin a bit too much or if the solution is too strong for you, it may cause scarring or infection. It is natural for your face to become red and swollen after you have a peel, but this will disappear after a few days and it is also possible that some scabbing may develop.

In order to minimize the side effects of a VI peel or peelings (if you are doing them at home), you should make sure that you know exactly what your skin type is so that you can purchase the right type of peel. Use the patch test to find out what your skin type is by pressing a tissue to parts of your face.

If the tissue doesn't stick at all, you have dry skin. If it only sticks in places, then you have combination skin and if it sticks to your face wherever you press it, you have oily skin. You should also do a little test on the skin on the inside of your wrist using the solution as directed to make sure that you won't experience any ill effects, such as irritation, when you use it on your face.

Peelings do remove the outer layer of the skin, which it is of utmost importance that when you rinse off the solution, you do not use a cloth. It is enough to splash warm water on your face using your hands. Using a face cloth will cause major problems by irritating the new skin layer that has been exposed.
