If someone told you that you could use magnets to accelerate the process of healing in your body after undergoing an injury, what would you say to them? Unless you are already someone who is appreciative of the benefits of alternative medical treatments, you may think that the use of medical magnets is some sort of a scam. However, gaining a better understanding of the purpose of magnets in medicine may actually make you change your mind about the benefits of this alternative form of healing therapy. At the very least, you may discover that the question to ask about the use of such magnets isn't a skeptical "why" but rather a clear "why not?".
The thing that most people don't understand about this form of treatment is that the healers who are promoting the use of such magnets are not trying to claim that these tools will cure you of serious ailments. Many alternative forms of medicine are looked down upon by people who prefer mainstream medical treatment because of the fact that alternative therapies often claim to offer miracle cures for diseases that are difficult to treat. This isn't the case here. You won't find healers telling you that they can be used to get rid of cancer or prevent AIDS or cure diabetes. Instead, what you will find is that they can be used along with other kinds of treatments to reduce discomfort and speed up the process of healing.
They typically aren't used to treat serious diseases but instead are used to reduce the pain associated with injury to the body. For example, they may be used as part of the healing therapy for people suffering from injuries like tennis elbow or ailments like joint pain. By working with the magnetic fields of the body, they help to ease the discomfort around these areas of the body. An increased level of comfort temporarily alleviates the problem. More importantly, the increased comfort level can make it possible to engage in appropriate physical therapy to treat the condition that is causing the pain. This can lead to a speedier recovery from injury than the recovery time the patient may have experienced if using physical therapy alone without the additional help from magnets.
Most people might not think that these can truly benefit you in your time of pain. If you do your research into the magnetic fields surrounding the body, you'll probably find that your opinion begins to shift. However, it isn't necessary to do this if you understand that there is no real reason not to at least try using them to improve your healing. There are very minimal side effects experienced from usage other than the occasional skin rash caused by an allergy to the metal in the magnet. Since there is no negative side effect to the use of a medical magnet, there is no clear reason not to at least attempt to see if your recovery process is improved by using such a tool. The worst thing that might happen is nothing and yet the benefits can be tremendous.
The point here is that you don't have to succumb to a lot of hype about the use of magnets in medicine in order to determine whether or not they can help to heal you. You simply have to let go of some of your prejudices about alternative medicine in order to see if magnet therapy might be something that works for you. If it doesn't, you didn't really lose anything from the experience. And if it does, you've gained an additional method of helping to heal yourself when problems occur in your body.
