Gotu Kola as Herb Remedy for Peyronie’s Disease

Gotu kola also known as Centella asiatica, is a red-flowered herb that grows abundantly in hot, swampy areas of Southeast Asia, India, and Sri Lanka. Gotu kola is also grows in tropical and sub-tropical parts of Australia, southern Africa, and South America (such as in the southern United States). Gotu kola has a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine (the traditional medicine of India). Gotu kola should not be confused with the caffeine-containing kola nut, used in original recipes for Coca-Cola. The kola nut contains caffeine and is a stimulant. Gotu kola, however, has no caffeine and is a very mild sedative.

Gotu kola has several benefit, people already known it as a brain herb, which has been used to improve learning ability, boost memory, and even counteract the memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The other benefit of gotu kola is the ability to help heal burns and wounds, as well as to alleviate some skin disorders, such as psoriasis, leprosy sores, and post-operative scarring.

In treating peyronie’s disease, in which fibrous scar tissue causes problems, gotu kola can stimulate the development of blood vessels in connective tissue on the penis, which consists primarily of the protein collagen. When blood flow to the site of an injury is improved, the healing process is enhanced. Some source says that it may be up to 6 weeks of using gotu kola before results are noticed. Gotu kola, although not yet proven as effective treatment for Peyronie’s Disease, are generally accepted as safe.
