SAD starts to develop in autumn, when the season moves toward winter and the days become shorter. The majority of people experience symptoms at some point between September and November. Moreover, since SAD and other types of depression are so severe, doctors require extensive evidence of the condition before they are willing to make a definite diagnosis. Despite the fact that signs can be very severe, doctors almost never diagnose patients with SAD until after he or she shows strong evidence of the disorder for a minimum of three consecutive winters. Individuals who are affected by this disorder start to experience feelings of depression, decreased enthusiasm, and tend to sleep for excessive periods. They also develop a craving for sugar or sweets. Additionally, the majority of persons who experience SAD also have immune systems that do not function adequately. Frequently, they find themselves becoming ill much more easily than people who do not have SAD. SAD can negatively affect a person's capability of functioning at work or educationally. This lack of motivation can make it difficult for a person even to get out of bed and tend to normal activities. People with SAD have trouble participating in social situations, or even at home. These persons frequently experience times of intense anxiety and irritability. Sometimes, symptoms become severe and disabling enough that some sufferers even consider suicide and have to be hospitalized for therapy. Interestingly, women appear to have a higher rate of SAD than men do. Additionally, this disorder seems to get better each year at springtime. Indeed, in March or April, symptoms typically decrease or resolve altogether - until autumn returns again. This is true even in regions that tend to be dismal all year long. In fact, almost one-fifth of those who are diagnosed with seasonal depression will at some point exhibit signs of bipolar disorder. These people are usually depressed during wintertime, but have normal moods throughout the rest of the year. At times, however, people describe instances of unexpected mood elevation, also known as mania. Like any other type of depression, SAD can become quite severe and even result in disability if left untreated. Additionally, many individuals experience very low-grade forms of depression; they may struggle with exhaustion, decreased vigor, and eating difficulties. Such people, however, do not usually suffer instances of depressive moods or anxiety. This type of depression is relatively uncommon in sunny areas such as Florida, Arizona, and Texas. In contrast, people who reside in places with many cloudy days, like Ohio, Michigan, or Oregon are at higher risk for developing this condition. Citizens of countries such as Finland, Sweden, and England also struggle with SAD. Scientists have tried many different strategies to assist clients recover from this exhausting problem. They have experimented with exposing people to artificial light in an attempt to help them manufacture more serotonin and relieve depression symptoms. Researchers have also tried medications such as antidepressants, as well as supplements, like melatonin, to help treat these symptoms of depression. Often, persons who struggle with this condition also visit counselors when their symptoms are at their peak. All of these therapies have been used with different amounts of success. Despite this, all are significantly more costly and time-intensive than two recently introduced, innovative methods. Hypnotherapy practitioners have refined the art of providing assistance with learning both NLP and hypnotherapy methods for depression. Using the latter method, people learn to talk themselves out of a depressive period and resolve their symptoms. These useful treatments, hypnosis and NLP, have proven to have a phenomenal degree of benefit in helping individuals to heal from, and prevent future occurrences of SAD. Summary:Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that recurs each year at the same season. Only those who struggle with this condition are able to decide whether to continue to fight these symptoms alone, year after year, or to look for assistance in healing from this illness forever.
