Sexual Dysfunction Treated Effectively

About Viagra

Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence affects men of all ages. Viagra, one of the three ED medications, is used in the treatment of impotence.

Viagra (sildenafil) belongs to a group of medicines that delay the enzymes called phosphodiesterase from working too quickly. When the phosphodiesterase is controlled using sildenafil, it helps to maintain an erection. But this happens only with physical stimulation of the penis. Viagra being a very popular drug, there is a new found sexual youth in men of all ages because of the little blue pill. But, like all prescription medications, Viagra also comes with its share of pitfalls and problems.

Viagra comes in tablet form in dosages of 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. For:

·        Men up to 65 years of age - Viagra 50mg is taken once a day, 30 minutes to an hour before intercourse. The dosage may change according to effectiveness.

·        Men older than 65 years of age - Viagra 25mg is taken 30 minutes to an hour before intercourse. In some cases an increase in dosage may be needed.

Male Impotence

Erectile dysfunction, affecting millions of men worldwide, is the inability to achieve an erection, and/or a total dissatisfaction with the size, rigidity, or duration of erections. Although, believed to be caused by psychological problems, it is now known that 80-90% of impotence has its base in physical problems, most often related to the blood supply to the penis.

ED can be highly devastating for couples. A thorough physical examination and diagnostic investigation can provide psychogenic or organic reasons for the underlying cause. But, oral ED medications are now used as the first line of action. In people, who find no relief in oral medication, may be advised to go in for penile injection therapy and vacuum constrictive devices, which may provide a reliable long-term solution. Psychotherapy may also be advised. Together, this treatment may positively impact the sexual health of an individual.

Viagra for male impotence treatment

Managing the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction plays a significant role in improving sexual function. In addition, Viagra can also assist with sexual activity. Working on the muscles in the penis, Viagra assists in the control of blood flow and allows for more blood to circulate into the penis when the time is right. The effect of Viagra can last up to four hours, therefore taking Viagra an hour before anticipated sexual activity should be optimal. Viagra cannot cause unplanned erections until  you are sexually stimulated.

Although, Viagra is crucial to getting an erection, it is by no means an aphrodisiac. Viagra, in no way, helps the sex drive, but definitely manages the mechanics of erection. If you are not interested in having sex, Viagra cannot work to change your mind.

The downside to Viagra is that it can have mild (e.g. indigestion and flushing)to serious (loss of vision) side effects.

Viagra Dosages

Viagra (sildenafil citrate) dosages are dependent on a variety of factors, including:
