Parker: "attorney General Michael Cox Committed Fraud," Cox Files Motion for Confession of Error

When Robert Parker divorced in 1978 his daughter, now 30, was 2-years-old. While his ex-wife was the primary residential parent, they shared joint custody. Like most men going through divorce, Parker expected to have a meaningful ongoing relationship with his child. It didn't happen. He says today his daughter "hates the sound of my name."

"My ex-wife kept my child from me; she never let me have her," Parker said in a recent phone interview, "She also committed Parental Alienation. When I'd go to pick our daughter up for visits, my ex-wife would start screaming at me. She called me all kinds of terrible names, right in front our daughter."

He said, "She used to jump on me, beating me and tearing my clothes off, and this also was in front of our daughter." He continued, "When I was in jail I ran into men who remembered seeing her doing this to me."

Parker was incarcerated for 40 days for alleged child support arrearage, even though a part of law called "equitable exoneration" released him from the obligation. Not only has Parker spent time behind bars unjustly, he says Michigan Attorney General Michael Cox's "vindictive retaliatory prosecution" has lead to him losing his $240,000-a-year job among other things. "I graduated from law school in 1985, yet I haven't been able to take the bar exam because of this Federal prosecution," said Parker.

"They prosecuted me even though I never owed the money and they did it even though the statute of limitations had expired. They prosecuted me when the law says you can't do it when only arrears are owed; there must be a current order in place," he explained, "My daughter was 29-years-old. They said I violated a 2003 court order, yet they have yet to produce it. And this is just the tip of the iceberg."

Parker remarried and has two more children, a daughter 13 and a son 17. When he and their mother separated, "she never tried to keep me from the kids, she never talked against me." They're now back together in the same house, raising the children together, and Parker says, "the kids are glad to have their dad home."

If he were to give young men contemplating marriage or fatherhood some advice, I asked, what would it be? His response, "Be very careful. Do not marry a woman with a vindictive nature. Be very careful of the companion he picks. I'd say the same thing to women; be very careful of the companion you pick. No one wants to be in a relationship with an abusive person or vindictive person."

What are his thoughts on his first daughter? "I pray to God she finds healing. I'm sorry she had to go through that," he said. And his thoughts on her mother? He replied, "I pray her mother gets help; she needs it."

When asked what he thinks of Michael Cox, Parker replied, "Michael Cox lied. Attorney General Michael Cox committed fraud, he needs to be held accountable. Michael Cox is incompetent." Parker has filed a lawsuit against Cox, which is pending. Recently Cox filed a Motion For Confession Of Error in this case, which should get Parker's suit moving.
