Anxiety attacks - A clear definition of what they are and how to deal with them

There has been much confusion about what an anxiety attack is, and the purpose of this article is to give you a clear and concise definition of what they are, what you can do about them, and to dispel the myths surrounding this affliction.

I am sure you are already well to aware of what an anxiety attack feels like, but what are they really?

First let me tell you that an anxiety attack is not life threatening, there have been no reported cases of anyone dying from a panic attack, it can however feel like you are, and this is what makes these attacks so unpleasant and difficult to control. They play on the fact that you are afraid of fear, which then leads to an anxiety cycle that is difficult to break.

You should also be aware, that an anxiety attack will always end. There is no possible way that the body can cope with a never ending panic attack. It is like holding your breath. No matter how much will power you have, your body's natural response is to make you breathe again, and the same thing goes with anxiety attacks.

Interestingly, anxiety is actually there to protect you. It is a mechanism that has been built in to you that allows you to be aware of your surroundings and prepares you to take action in case there is a need to escape a potentially dangerous situation.

An anxiety attack is just a heightened response to fear. It is your mind making a mountain out of a molehill. When you are in danger, or placed in a stressful situation that makes you uncomfortable your body reacts and prepares you to fight or to run from the danger (flight or fight response).

The problem lies with how your mind responds to the situation.

Let me give you an example. Say for instance you are placed in a difficult situation that you know you are uncomfortable in. Your body reacts with a quickened heart beat but your MIND reacts and you tell yourself you are having a heart attack, which of course is completely untrue. Your mind is interpreting a situation that is distorted and this is the main reason as to why you have panic attacks.

What I have just told you here is very powerful, and you are now armed with information most people dont have. Realizing these facts is the preliminary step in eliminating anxiety attacks for good. Now that you what they are and what they aren't, you can now learn how to stop an anxiety attack.

Imagine your life without panic attacks? How much easier would things be for you if you knew that you could go about your daily routines without the fear of one occuring?
