Autism In Children - Guide To Detect Early Signs

The Statistics Of Early Autism

Statistics have proved that autism is far more common than is generally perceived – in fact, out of a thousand babies born every year, eight of them will be autistic. This is alarming for all new parents, and they should be aware of the symptoms to look out for and understand what autism is about. The sooner it is detected, the child has a greater chance of being treated and being able to live as full a life as possible.

Early Symptoms Of Autism

There are symptoms to look out for when the child is very young. One of the first signs in a very young child is the lack of development and progress before a child reaches 1 year. If the child is only able to make sounds and certain gestures without any sign of coherent speech, this is something to watch out for.

By the time the child is a year and a half, a child should be able to say a word or two – if this does not happen, autism is a thought that should be considered and you will need to deal with it by seeking medical help.

If you feel that your child has a hearing problem because he is not responding in the manner he should, you will need to test his hearing because an autistic child will usually not respond.

By the time a child is 2 years, he should definitely be able to string a few words together – if he does not do this, then it will be necessary to visit a pediatrician.

Another sign to look out for is the response to the child’s name – if this does not happen, then autism is something that could be the reason.

Children with autism usually keep and stack their toys in a manner that is peculiar to them, and if it is disturbed in any way, it could lead to deep anxiety and stress for the child.

These are some of the early signs to look out for. It is always better to watch out and be aware of how your child is progressing and developing – if there is the slightest deviation from the norm, you will need to watch more closely, because early detection can help the child in the long run.

Always consult your pediatrician who will be able to guide you – remember to give him all the details of your child’s lack of progress to enable him to assess the situation and advise you as to the next step.

A good doctor will be able to treat your child and give you all the support you need, so when you have the slightest suspicion that all is not well with your child’s progress, consult your doctor for immediate treatment.
