I want to bring you into the life of a person suffering from emetophobia. This is an irrational fear of vomiting in public. For me, that doesn't seem that unreasonable, since I do have a bit of a fear vomiting in public, but the keyword here is irrational. These people are so scared of this happening that they will cut themselves off from society. This is a big problem for a lot of people and I wanted to share a little more on this topic and how people are overcoming emetophobia.
People that are suffering from emetophobia has a condition that drives them into isolation from the world. There is a lot of things out there that could cause them to start vomiting, so they hide out in their home because it's really the only place they can control. Take for example, a restaurant. Most people will go with their friends to a restaurant, but someone suffering from emetophobia will avoid this because they don't know if the food is safe. The chef could of sneezed on it, or didn't cook it all the way through or really anything. The idea is that there could be a germ on it that could make them sick. This is why they close themselves off from the world because they can protect themselves that way.
The good news about all this is that people can overcome emetophobia and get back to having a normal life. I don't think anyone is looking to hide away from society in fear, they want to enjoy life and be able to go into those scary scenarios without the fear. Various methods have been created and have been quite successful.
