When’s the last time you went on a vacation, got out of town, or had a getaway? Whatever you like to call it, I like to refer to it as a mental break. Depending on your personality and interests, any time away from work, school, or the daily grind should be a time to recharge your batteries. We all know what it feels like to burn the candles at both ends and a vacation is the perfect cure. Traveling these days isn’t the most affordable or practical for most of us, but there are ways to get around those inflated prices.
Begin by exploring your local area. It’s true that tourists usually see and do more in a foreign city than the people who actually live there. If you live in a resort area or destination spot your job will be easier – just walk out the front door. You can also get a list of fun things to do or ideas for weekend trips in your state by visiting your local Chamber of Commerce. They will be more than happy to assist you and they have tons of resources with biased information. You can check out your state parks, festivals, parades, etc. and plan a trip around it.
If your travels require lodging accommodations, there are a few money saving tips to mention. Find other families living in your destination of choice to swap houses with by going online. To save on hotel rooms, stay away from those 800 numbers who will most likely direct you to a national call center. Instead, call the local hotel number and ask to speak with the manager on duty who may be willing to negotiate with you. If possible, avoid hotel booking sites, you can get a better discount if you book your reservation through the hotel’s website or by calling them directly. You need a getaway now more than ever to prevent or relieve tension and stress in your life.
