Work Anxiety: The sequel to school anxiety

I remember like it was yesterday, graduating from high school. The highlight for me, unfortunately, wasn't career prospects and seeing the rest of the world. The highlight was graduating from school anxiety.

Almost everyday I went to school with a knot in my stomach. I had a fear of using the public restrooms. I had a fear of homework. I had a fear of tests. I had a fear of my stomach making those crazy gurgling noises when you have to rip a fart in a quiet classroom. I had a fear of lunch time when I had to sit alone because I was too shy to make friends, when my two friends had different lunch times. I had a fear of gym class where I was particularly clumsy and awkward.

Little did I know that graduating from school anxiety only propelled me forward to the next stage of my life: work anxiety.

It is little surprise that people who have work anxiety, had school anxiety as a child.

Let's break down what these two activities have in common: They both usually require one to be up early in the morning. They both require you to stay put at a particular location for roughly a third of your entire day. They both have an authority figure that will tell you what to do and punish you if you do what you're not supposed to do. They both require you to abandon your loved ones all day.

Needless to say, I used to arrive at work everyday with a knot in my stomach. I had a fear of public bathrooms. I had a fear of not doing my paperwork right. I had a fear of evaluations. I had a fear of disciplining those underneath me. I had a fear of being disciplined by those above me. I had a fear of the break room, where sports were usually on TV, as co-workers might try to talk with me about last night's game, and I'd stammer because I am completely clueless with sports.

Fortunately, I came to a point in my life where common sense told me all this fear had no foundation in logic. Why should I feel sick to my stomach everyday because I have to go to some place for eight hours a day? Why should I let other people have so much control over me. I was sick of giving up my control, and consequently my well-being just to make others happy.  Why should I have to wonder if I was having a heart attack, or a panic attack?  Fortunately, I discovered the best anti anxiety program on the market. I have work anxiety no longer.
