wChoosing a career may be a dilemma, you need to discover your potential!
The problem of choosing a satisfying career is universal. It is for some an agonizing process. The successful ones are those who take their related decisions based on their interest an understanding of their latent abilities. Still others fail and they try to fulfill expectations or inculcate others blindly. Efforts in the direction of determining your true career preferences will not only help you to reach the higher level in your chosen career, but also to fulfill your dreams and aspirations.
We are involved in many professions, which we choose based on monetary considerations, family or peer pressure and other circumstances. However an important aspect which is seldom considered by us is our interest. Do I like this Job? Am I good at it? In short am I in my element? An enquiry of such questions is a journey of discovering the kind of work you want to put your life into If your answer to these questions is a resounding “YES”, then you are bound to succeed and have truly contented life.
As Judy Garland has put it “Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of second rate version of someone else”. This applies to you, when you are still undecided about your future.
So what matters is finding you niche in the place of work and then craving the same out.
What we need is to match is our traits and personalities with occupations. For example, artistic people have high degree of creativity, they enjoy creating original work and dealing with ideas. Placing such creative people in conventional environment is a wrong decision.
The ms successful people are those whose career is closely aligned to their personality. This is the key to a successful career.
But most important question is who should be eventually responsible for this task? I feel everyone is responsible. First of all it is responsibility of every individual to identify where his/her strengths lie.Secondly, it is the responsibility of every superior to help the individual understand his/her interest and take managerial decisions appropriately.Lastly,it is the responsibility of Human Resource Managers, career counselors, coaches and trainers to help individuals discover their individual potential.
Remember, matching the right person with the right job will not only lead to well –being and long lasting happiness of the individual but also that of the organization and society as a whole.
As Matthew Arnold has aptly put it,
“Resolve to be thyself: And know, that he who finds himself, loses his misery”.
