Become the Person You Might Have Been!

Posted: Sep 04, 2008 | Comments: 0 | Views: 11 | Bookmark and Share

Let me begin by disclaimer.  I do not claim to have become the person I would like to be, but I am definitely  willing to experience all that life has to offer in order to be!

Lets start at the beginning.  Are you born with a plan or do your formulate one in your formative years?
Is the universe already aware of what it needs to do to make you who you want to become, or are you going to tell the universe what you need from it in order to become.

I believe in the universal life force energy and in the fact that there are no co-incidences.  Yet, I am not of the deterministic view of life.  I believe we have choices and we have to live with the consequences of those choices.

I have always had a mind of my own.

I cracked a deal with my parents very early on.  They told me what was the minimum percentage they expected from my annual results and I told them they would never ask me about how, when, why etc of my studies as long as I secured those marks.  From standard 7th onwards we have never had a discussion on my studies.

In college I was someone who asked tough questions and was brutally honest in asking them.

At work I craved for fire fighting situations coz it accorded one the opportunity to take decisions & execute them.  If I had an opinion I would share it, fight for it and either accept the reason provided for or against it or sulk in the face of authority pushing it upon me.

It took me 10 long years to finally understand I should be on my own.

I looked around.  A lot of people suggested I was late while some said I was early.  Some said you never quit between 27yrs - 32yrs coz thats when you transition from mid-management to top-brass.  I heard everybody, then decided to follow my heart.  I quit.

Today, I do not regret the decision.
Today, I celebrate the fact that, however late, I did take the first tentative steps to be what I might have been if I started early or differently.

Here's what I can suggest to you.

Look back at the times you have been happiest, when you didnt know how time flew by and you were never exhausted.  When the act of waking up was a thrill and you looked forward to everything.  That is the person you might have been if you kept doing what you were doing then.

Search for that and take a concrete step towards it.

Do Something today ( see 3 Rules to Getting Things Done) that makes you who you want to be or might have been!

Happy Being!

When we look at a certain object, such as a painting... we aren't able to appreciate the forms in it; what was painted and what also makes the painting great, if it is just inches away from our face. However, if we try to back up from the painting so we can take in more of it, we get a clearer vision of the art work and the whole story it is trying to portray to us.

Everything that happens to us happens on purpose. And most times, one thing leads to another. Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartaches, embarrassment and failures treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in both self improvement and success.

Do you step outside your comfort zone or do you expand what’s in your comfort zone? This has been the debate raging in my head for the past several days. It may be a glass half full or half empty argument but doesn’t your perspective on that make all the difference? Isn’t there a big difference between half full and half empty people even though the glass looks exactly the same? I think if we all made that little tweak about our comfort zone we would be able to achieve so much more

This wasn’t the case years ago when I’d failed in relationship after relationship, but today I am incredibly happy and lucky to have married the woman of my dreams. Vania is a wonderful partner to me, and wonderful mother to my son.

Pain may sometimes be the reason why people change. Getting flunked grades make us realize that we need to study. Debts remind us of our inability to look for a source of income. Being humiliated gives us the ‘push’ to speak up and fight for ourselves to save our face from the next embarrassments.
