Befriend your Fear

Fear is an illusion of the mind. It can cripple you and stifle your very existence if you don’t know how to conquer or befriend your fear. Fear is the opposite of Faith or belief in oneself. If you are not confident in your abilities, fear is bound to plague you.

If you are a dreamer and want to accomplish your goals and dream, you have to put aside fear. It is reasonable to say that fear is a human condition that when felt can release such intense emotions that keeps you from moving forward. As long as you don’t let the fear stop you from the pursuit of success, then it is Ok to feel the fear and still face your situation head one. Most people have fear of different things depending on the level of consciousness that they have become aware of in their lives.

Fear of failing, fear of success, fear of loneliness, fear of the unknown, fear of mistakes and fear of flying are some of the fears that cripple some people into living life at its fullest. There is no way that we can stop fear from showing up because since we are only human, it is quite likely that we will have some kind of fear. However, if you can reach inside and find a way to befriend that fear, it will eventually go away and you will be amazed that it wasn’t really worth it.

Fear is a mechanism to challenge you. The television show, “Fear Factor,” exemplifies this fact. If you learn how to get past the fear, you can become successful and experience the joy and relief of relinquishing that fear.

If fear is stopping you from fulfilling your dreams, you may need a coach or mentor to help you to recognize your fear, embrace your fear, and diffuse your fear. Let your coach or mentor assist you in releasing the fear and not allowing it to control you. You may need some tools to equip you on how to handle fear.

Here are some quick suggestions:

1. Don’t push away your fears. Embrace them. Find out what is causing you to fear and stretch yourself so that you won’t miss out an opportunity due to fear.

2. Befriend your fears no matter what they are. If this fear is causing you to stand still and not be able to move forward, it is time to deal with it head-on. If you are afraid to take the risk, go ahead and do it anyway. It is OK to stumble and get back up. It is not OK to sit with the fear and do nothing.

3. Ask yourself, “What is the worst thing that can happen?” You might be surprised by the answer you get. Don’t let the fear consume you so much that you cannot accept the response you get. . If the worse thing that can happen still frightens you, then you need to do it anyway. Sometimes, it is all in your mind.

4. Take risks. Allow someone like a coach to help you to realize that success comes with failures and you don’t know the outcome until you try. Allow the coach to support you in your decisions or give you a different perspective on your fears.

5. Getting someone else’s viewpoint may be just what you need to calm your fears.

6. Encourage yourself. Increase your confidence by doing research on whatever makes you fear.

Managing your fears requires how you approach those fears. Self-confidence is a sure way to conquer your fears and to build your confidence, hire a coach or mentor who will help you to feel good about your decisions and work on dreams.
