Creating Magical Moments

In my life as a biologist, I studied hummingbird behavior. In fact, my master's thesis was on hummingbirds, and I videotaped and analyzed the data on more than 13,000 feedings! Best yet, my experimental design was so successful that it ended up attracting more than 500 feedings per hour during the peak periods of the study.

I love hummingbirds - their magical movements, their speed, and their sense of humor! (You have to BE with them for a while to catch on to that one, I think.) In the last few weeks there's been a lot of hummingbirds as the migratory visitors are in to breed, and I had the chance to watch them often from the balcony area where I meditate. I began to miss them, remembering how fun and exciting it was to watch them up close. So I took action.

I put out two feeders with my special recipe (the secret is at the end of this article) and they began to come in droves, fighting, playing, what I think of as "singing", and generally just amusing me as I watched. When I was doing my thesis research, they used to dive down and play with my hair or even peck on my red toenail polish. So far, several of them have been coming to "visit" by hovering about six inches from my face to check me out.

It's been fun, it's been delightful, it's been downright entertaining. In fact, it's been magical watching all the birds that have been drawn to my home. (Don't even get me started on the Hooded Orioles!). It's taken me back to a time that was magical and playful.

I realized the importance of remembering what has given us joy in the past and finding ways to relish the simple pleasures in our daily life. So often, we may pass up the opportunity to create good feelings for ourselves and others because we get caught up in the busyness of life and living.

So my question to you is this: Is there something you would enjoy doing that you have been putting off?

Better yet, ask yourself this: What is one thing I can do TODAY to feel good and create joy in the world for myself or others?

It may be simple. It may be inexpensive. It doesn't have to take a great deal of time. But it can create magical moments and an incredible feeling of joy inside you that will move through your life to attract even more.

We know that what we focus on expands, and when we create excitement, fun, laughter, and delight we are sure to experience even more. Most of us have gotten pretty good at doing the "have to's" in life, but some of us have forgotten the importance of the "love to's" as well.

Give yourself the gift, starting today, to open yourself up to the childlike joys of being alive! Give yourself the gift of magical moments! Allow yourself to experience the feelings of joy, laughter, play, and ecstatic excitement! As you do, you will be creating an irresistible energy field that will naturally attract to you incredibly wonderful moments that will delight you!

We are here to enjoy this amazing playground of life in a way that is full and fulfilled with all of our heart's desires. Life is meant to be magical, to excite and delight us! There is a limitless supply for us all if we only open ourselves to receive.

Begin to take actions today that will bring more love, joy, laughter, freedom, and just "feeling great" into your life. The pay off will be tremendous as you experience more of the magic in your life, knowing that you can create it at any moment.

And remember, YOU deserve it!

No matter where you are in your life, without self-confidence you can not progress in a powerful way. Success starts with yourself and the first thing you need to do is assess your current levels of self-confidence. This assessment will give you an opportunity to reflect on some major areas of your life and honestly look at your self-esteem. The power comes not from the assessment, but rather from the follow up on the assessment with some powerful questions that I suggest you pose to yourself.

Depression
By: ksgirl | 23-06-2008
I am a female, 24 years old, married a little over a year. I have struggled with depression my entire life. I have attempted suicide five times, the first time at the age of six. (I had gender issues and sibling problems.) As a young girl, I was molested long-term by a female relative. I saw counselors for this. As a teenager, I was abused long-term and finally raped by a family friend and became pregnant. I induced a miscarriage by taking drugs. I became heavily involved in drugs and cutting myself for many months, and most of my suicide attempts fall during this time period. I got off drugs myself, though I saw many counselors and took an herbal anti-depressant. I refused drugs because I thought my parents would be ashamed of me ?taking the easy way out.? I became engaged to a homosexual man, who was my best friend, and convinced myself that I couldn't do any better. I broke off the engagement when I fell in love with a man and decided to try for real happiness. I dated around, ended up living with my now-husband. A friend tried to force himself on me while my then-boyfriend was out. I stopped him, and he lied to my parents, told them that my bf was abusing me and forcing me to make porn movies. By the time we'd cleared that up, my bf and I were engaged, but this "friend" had seduced my little sister, then 16. (He was 25.) They snuck around until she turned 18. In the meantime, three close relatives died within seven weeks of each other. My sister left my parents (moved out while my mother was making funeral arrangements for my aunt, the last to die, and I spent all night looking for her, not even knowing where she'd gone or if she was ok) and moved in with him, refused to attend my wedding, and believes him over me about what happened. We were best friends growing up, but now barely speak. I've heard they got married. My husband and I moved out of state a year ago. I have had a lot of difficulty adjusting, and have had relapses of my depression. I find myself wanting to cut badly, and instead often drink or have a cigarette. When I'm alone, I masturbate compulsively. I try not to binge-eat, which I have done in the past, because I am just now maintaining a healthy weight, for the first time in years. But I want to eat, and I know that the feeling is just a reaction to the depression. I often feel anxious and extremely sad, even when things are going well. I have a family history. (A great-grandmother was a hypochondriac. My grandmother had ?nerves? all her life, spent all her time on the couch, overate, was violent, etc. My uncle is bipolar. My mother has seasonal-affective disorder and has been treated for depression.) I have begun to think that my depression is a chemical imbalance of some kind, exacerbated by the events in my life, because there isn't a trigger to most of these recent episodes. I am still able to function, go to work, etc, but my private time falls apart and I'm distracted. I am struggling with how to deal with this. I don't want to waste money on therapy if it's a physical, not emotional, thing. I'm sure that, at this point, there's little a therapist can do but to tell me to move on, which I am trying to do. I also worry that my insurance rates will go up if I end up on antidepressants. Most of the time, I think I handle it pretty well. But I've begun to think that cutting is better for my health, long-term, than smoking. I don't even like to smoke anymore, I just do it to get rid of that urge to hurt. I have to hide the cigarettes from my husband, who hates them, but they're easier to hide than cuts. Also, I am a writer, and I have the thought in the back of my head that my depression makes for better work, so I maybe don't want to lose that. I'm very confused... Any comments are appreciated. Thank you, Rosie, for your response... I see that many people have read this, but have not replied. I wish I had more responses to get a feel of everyone's thoughts...
